Jennifer Lopez finds inspiration for her music in her love life, with Ben Affleck specifically serving as her muse since the start of their relationship.
Known as Bennifer, the couple embarked on their fast-paced romance in 2002. Affleck and Lopez initially connected while filming Gigi, in which they portrayed gangsters who fell in love. Following Lopez's separation from her then-husband Cris Judd in June 2002, she and Affleck publicly announced their romantic involvement. Just five months later, Lopez and the Oscar winner were engaged.
In addition to the relationship milestones they achieved in their first year together, Lopez dedicated her album This Is Me … Then to Affleck at the time. The album included some of Lopez's most popular songs, such as "Jenny from the Block," "All I Have," "Baby I Love U," "I'm Glad," and more. Almost twenty years later, Lopez looked back on the profound significance of the record.
"In a July 2021 interview with Apple Music, she expressed that when she listened to that [album] on multiple levels, the songs are even more relevant now than they were back then. It was a significant and timeless moment. When music holds significance, it remains eternally present, just like love."
Despite initially being happy and deeply in love, the couple ultimately decided to cancel their wedding in 2004. Lopez went on to marry Marc Anthony, while Affleck moved forward with Jennifer Garner. Unfortunately, both relationships eventually ended in divorce.
Seven years after their split, Lopez and Affleck reignited their love affair. Affleck popped the question again in April 2022. Within three months, the duo exchanged vows in a clandestine ceremony in Las Vegas, followed by a second celebration at Affleck's residence in Georgia for their loved ones.
To mark the couple's inaugural year of matrimony, Lopez unveiled her track "Midnight Trip to Vegas" in July 2023. Ahead of the official launch of her album This Is Me ... Now later in 2023, she previewed the song's lyrics in a newsletter.
