The Batman: Arkham series made its debut 14 years ago and has managed to maintain its quality and relevance to this day. With its exceptional portrayal of beloved DC characters, innovative Freeflow combat system, and captivating open-world settings, the Batman: Arkham series has truly stood the test of time. While many devoted fans have already experienced the entire saga multiple times in the past decade, there's always room for one more playthrough, especially with the arrival of the Batman: Arkham Trilogy on Switch.
Recently announced during the Nintendo Direct presentation, amid all the exciting Super Mario news, the Batman: Arkham Trilogy brings together all three mainline Arkham games, including all of their DLC, as confirmed by Nintendo. However, there is one often overlooked DLC for the Arkham series that may not be included in the Batman: Arkham Trilogy. If that happens to be the case, it means the collection is technically not entirely complete.
The Batman: Arkham Trilogy Needs The Wii U DLC to be Complete
The Batman: Arkham series offers an abundance of downloadable content (DLC) to immerse newcomers in the game. With each subsequent sequel, the amount of content only increases. In Batman: Arkham Asylum, there are a total of five DLC packs. Four of these packs introduce new challenge missions, while one allows players to assume the role of The Joker in specific challenge maps. It is uncertain whether the Joker challenge missions will be included in the Batman: Arkham Trilogy, but it is highly likely considering that they were included in the Return to Arkham remaster.
Batman: Arkham City takes the DLC offerings to a whole new level, providing multiple new playable characters and an entire story expansion. Catwoman, Nightwing, and Robin all have their own sets of unique challenge maps, along with various comic book-inspired skins. Batman also has his own cosmetic bundle, which adds eight costumes to the game. Additionally, there is the Harley Quinn's Revenge story DLC, which takes place right after the events of Arkham City's main story. In this DLC, players assume the role of Robin as he endeavors to rescue Batman.
Batman: Arkham Knight offers an impressive selection of nearly 40 DLCs, including bundles that come with a wide range of fresh content. These DLCs feature an array of Batman skins inspired by various interpretations from both screen and page. Additionally, players can enjoy challenge maps designed for each playable character and story packs dedicated to Red Hood and Harley Quinn. The game's DLCs also introduce the Arkham Episodes story pack, which delivers six thrilling new campaign missions for every character, as well as the Season of Infamy story DLC, which unveils four captivating side campaigns centered around the likes of Mr. Freeze, the Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, and Ra's al Ghul.
Despite the abundance of content available, the package wouldn't be complete without a nostalgic trip back to the Wii U era. Originally released exclusively for the Wii U in 2012, Batman: Arkham City - Armored Edition brought a range of console-specific enhancements to the beloved game. Notably, these enhancements revolved around utilizing the Wii U's controversial gamepad, including features like activating detective vision and controlling a remote batarang. However, perhaps the most appealing aspect of Arkham City - Armored Edition was the inclusion of two brand-new suits for Batman and Catwoman, adding a unique twist to the gameplay experience.
The armor known as the titular armor in Batman: Arkham City triggers a meter upon activation, granting players a momentary increase in melee damage. This surge of power manifests as a surge of electricity emanating from Batman's gauntlets and Catwoman's claws. While not an essential component, its presence in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch would be a welcomed inclusion, bridging the gap between two distinct eras of the Arkham series on Nintendo platforms. The release of the trilogy on the Switch is slated for Fall 2023.
