Taylor Sheridan, the man responsible for Yellowstone and its various spinoffs, holds a significant position at Paramount Network. However, it is important to note that the Yellowstone universe is just one aspect of his vast empire. Unlike other super-producers like Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes, who collaborate with other writers and directors on their projects, Sheridan prefers a more independent approach. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023, Sheridan revealed his plan to follow the example set by Greg Berlanti, the producer of The CW's Arrowverse. He intended to take charge of writing, casting, and directing the pilots himself, while bringing in a showrunner to oversee the writers room and receive guidance from him.
However, the situation unfolded differently. In February 2023, Terrence Winter, the showrunner for the first season of Tulsa King, stepped down due to reported creative disagreements with Sheridan. Although Sheridan did not take on the role himself, he expressed to THR that he is not willing to compromise, even in his position as executive producer. He stated that when he decided to quit acting, he made a commitment to tell his stories on his own terms. If others do not support this vision, he is willing to find someone who does or even forgo the opportunity altogether. He emphasized that compromise is not an option for him.

A Guide to Every Non-'Yellowstone' Show in the Taylor Sheridan Universe
Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind Yellowstone and its numerous spinoffs, holds a pivotal role at Paramount Network. However, his influence extends beyond the Yellowstone universe. While other successful producers, such as Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes, collaborate with other writers and directors on their projects, Sheridan prefers to work independently. In a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he shared his initial plan, saying, "I wanted to approach it like Greg Berlanti does with The CW's Arrowverse. I would write, cast, and direct the pilots, and then bring in a showrunner to lead a team of writers, while I remained involved to offer guidance."
However, the situation did not unfold as initially planned. In February 2023, Terrence Winter, who was the showrunner for the first season of Tulsa King, stepped down due to reported creative disagreements with Sheridan. Despite this, Sheridan did not take over the position but expressed to THR that he has no intention of compromising, even in his role as executive producer.
"After quitting acting, I made a firm decision to tell my stories my own way, without any compromises," he stated. "If you don't support my vision, that's fine. I will find someone who does or I will continue to share my stories at smaller venues. But I refuse to compromise. There is no room for compromise."
