This coming of age story is based on Kazumi Takayama’s personal experiences as a vocalist in the idol pop group, Nogizaka46. It offers a raw, behind-the-scenes look at the reality behind the glitz and glamour of pop star life.

The film is set to debut in Japanese cinemas in May 2024, with a potential release in the West afterwards. The streaming platform for the film's release in the West has not been confirmed at this time.

Trapezium plot

According to the teaser that was released by Aniplex’s YouTube channel, the plot of the film will closely follow the book.

The story centers on Yu Higashi, a ten-year-old girl with aspirations of becoming an idol. In order to pursue her dream, she establishes four strict rules for herself: no social media, no boyfriend, no drawing attention at school, and the necessity of befriending other girls from different regions. Will Yu be able to achieve her goal, or will she encounter the same obstacles that have thwarted many others before her?

Trapezium cast and crew

The full cast and crew for Trapezium has not yet been revealed. However, some key details are available. Asaki Yuikawa, recognized for roles in Shangri-La Frontier and The Legendary Hero is Dead!, will provide the voice for the main protagonist Yu Higashi.

Director Masahiro Shinohara is set to lead this upcoming film, with Yuko Kakihara penning the script, Rio serving as the character designer, and music by Masaru Yokoyama. Koji Masunari will oversee the project.
