Fan-favorite stars are keeping their feet on the gas pedal this awards season.
Only a few days after the 81st annual Golden Globes, Hollywood's biggest stars were once again dressed to the nines for the 2024 Governors Awards on January 9. The event, dedicated to recognizing achievements in the film industry, paid tribute to Mel Brooks, film editor Carol Littleton, Michelle Satter of the Sundance Institute, and Angela Bassett. Bassett, 65, was honored for her exceptional career spanning decades. Academy president Janet Yang praised her in a press release, stating, "Angela Bassett has consistently delivered outstanding performances that have set new standards in acting."
During her acceptance speech, Bassett expressed her gratitude for the award and urged the audience to advocate for inclusivity.
"It's not just about me," she emphasized. "What I hope this achievement represents is our commitment to a future where it becomes customary, rather than exceptional, to acknowledge and appreciate each other's complete humanity, narratives, and viewpoints. This should be our objective, and we must never forget that there is space for everyone."
