Their conversation is interrupted when an older student informs them about the appearance of the legendary Pastry of Knowledge in the other cafeteria. This pastry is said to be a hidden dessert crafted by an expert chef, and whoever consumes it is promised to become an esteemed scholar. The pastry takes on various forms, and this time it presents itself as macarons.

Anya and Becky rush to acquire their own macarons, closely followed by Damian and his companions who had heard the same rumor. Sadly, the final batch of macarons is purchased by George Glooman, whom the group promptly harasses due to his previous misconduct. Eventually, he yields and offers them four out of the five macarons he received, though it is still insufficient for all of them. The five children decide to settle the matter by playing a game of Old Maid, determining who will secure a macaron and who will be left empty-handed.

A Battle Of Bluffs

Damian attempts to deceive Anya in a game of Old Maid by tricking her into selecting the Joker card, hoping it will cause her to finish in last place. Nevertheless, Anya's extraordinary ability to read minds enables her to easily evade his trap, leading her to secure a resounding victory. Astonished by her triumph, the other players refuse to accept that Anya could have accomplished this feat on her first attempt. Consequently, to address their doubts, Anya graciously suggests a rematch. In this subsequent round, Anya deliberately performs poorly in order to avoid arousing suspicion. However, her intentional underperformance becomes a hindrance as she eventually obtains the Joker card. Her inability to maintain a convincing poker face becomes glaringly obvious to the other players, leaving them with no doubt as to the identity of the Joker.

Soon, Damian and Anya are the only remaining contestants, with Anya still in possession of the Joker. Damian is determined to emerge victorious, but his plan is thwarted when Anya breaks down in tears. Her emotional outburst is a result of her reluctance to be separated from Becky, primarily because she failed to obtain the macaron that could enhance her intelligence. Damian is taken aback by her display of emotions and intentionally loses, handing Anya the final macaron. Overwhelmed by guilt, Anya attempts to share the macaron with Damian, but he rejects her kind gesture and hastily departs. He vows to attain the title of Imperial Scholar even without the assistance of the Pastry of Knowledge. Anya consumes the macaron and, despite experiencing a sudden surge of energy, notices little improvement in her academic performance.

Franky's Romantic Shenanigans, And Future Conflicts

During their meeting, Loid discusses the underworld activities of Ostania with Franky, seeking information about a job. Franky shares details about Garden, a covert assassin group rumored to have operated for countless years. However, Loid remains doubtful of such an organization's existence. In the midst of their conversation, Franky abruptly shifts gears, urging Loid to assist in locating a missing cat named Kopi. Unbeknownst to Loid, Franky’s motives are driven by his desire to impress Kacey, the cat's owner, with the hope of winning her over. Disinterested, Loid interrupts Franky, leaving before Franky can even elaborate on his request. Growing frustrated, Franky pledges to find the cat independently.

Franky immediately starts reaching out to his contacts to assist him in the search for the cat. During his search, he coincidentally runs into Yor who offers to help him during her lunch break. Franky proudly showcases his various inventions designed to catch Kopi, but unfortunately, they prove to be mostly unsuccessful. In the end, it is Yor who successfully captures Kopi and returns him to Kacey and her boyfriend, of whom Franky was unaware. This heartbreaking experience prompts Franky to redirect his focus towards his work, forsaking any romantic pursuits.

Back at work, Yor receives a call from her boss, who informs her about a new mission from a client regarding assassination jobs. This occurrence hints at a darker and more intense storyline in the upcoming episode. While the previous episodes have showcased the development of side characters in Spy x Family, it is refreshing to have occasional serious narratives as well.
