Authors in the anime industry often reuse characters and personalities with slight variations in their new series. Edens Zero is no exception, as Hiro Mashima has recycled several character designs and personalities from his previous work, Fairy Tail. While some similarities are subtle, others are far too obvious.
Rebecca Bluegarden is one such character who bears a striking resemblance to Fairy Tail's Lucy Heartfilia. While many characters from both series share certain similarities, none are as identical as these two. Not only do they look alike, but they also have many parallels in their roles and characterizations within their respective shows.
Character Design and Characterization
Rebecca's appearance bears a striking resemblance to Lucy's, with only a few minor differences. Both characters have long blonde hair, a curvy figure, and wear form-fitting clothing in a blue-white color scheme. Additionally, they share a similar facial structure and wide-eyed expression. In terms of personality, Rebecca embodies both Lucy's compassion and tenderness and Natsu's self-assuredness and readiness for battle. While she leans more towards Lucy's character, it's important to note that Rebecca is still in the early stages of her journey and comparing her to a more developed character would be unfair.
Significant Latent powers
Both Rebecca and Lucy possess latent powers that become central pieces to the plot. Rebecca's Cat Leaper power allows her to travel back in time to a different timeline, altering the cosmos itself. Lucy's Celestial Spirit Magic initially allowed her to summon only one Celestial Spirit at a time, but later, she maintained three Celestial Gates simultaneously and summoned the Celestial Spirit King, a feat that remains unrivaled. Despite being considered the weakest in their respective groups, Rebecca and Lucy outshine everyone else with their unique powers.
Central Role in the Series
Both Rebecca and Lucy serve as deuteragonists in their respective series and play important roles in their journeys. However, while Rebecca's Cat Leaper Ether Gear is coveted by antagonists for its world-breaking power, Lucy's Celestial Spirit Magic has become central to the plot on numerous occasions. The Key of the Starry Sky and Eclipse Celestial Spirit arcs revolve entirely around Lucy's magic, while in the Tartaros arc, her magic is crucial in saving the entire Fairy Tail guild from stasis, solidifying her as an integral part of the plotline.
Similar Creative Aspirations
Both characters share a common creative aspiration, which is an important aspect of their personalities. Rebecca's goal of reaching one million subscribers on B-Cube, a social networking site for vloggers, is a clear indication of her love for creating content. Although she often gets sidetracked, this goal remains a significant part of her character. On the other hand, Lucy's passion for literature and her desire to write a book is also evident throughout the show. However, she prefers to keep her work more private and gets flustered when someone brings it up.
