Gavin Casalegno had strong criticism for the New York Jets after revealing their allegiance to Team Conrad.
The Jets' official Instagram account initiated an amusing conflict on Sunday, October 1, by sharing a photo of Sean Kaufman, David Iacono, and Christopher Briney from The Summer I Turned Pretty, expressing their support for the team during a game. The accompanying caption read, "Jets are #TeamConrad."
After the Jets took a stance in the ongoing viral relationship debate, 24-year-old Casalegno playfully mocked them. "That's probably why you lost... but the @dallascowboys and I suppose the @chiefs know what's really going on️," commented Casalegno, who hails from Texas. (The Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious with a 23-20 win against the Jets on Sunday.)
Casalegno takes on the role of Jeremiah, Conrad's younger brother, in the Prime Video series based on Jenny Han's popular young adult book series. The Summer I Turned Pretty centers around Belly (Lola Tung) and her brother Steven (Kaufman), who spend their summer reconnecting with childhood friends Conrad (Briney) and Jeremiah. As Belly initially develops a crush on Conrad, her life becomes more complex when she realizes she also has feelings for Jeremiah.
Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney, featured in Prime Video's Season 2, concluded their storylines in August. Belly, portrayed by Casalegno, chose Jeremiah over Conrad, signaling a new beginning in their relationship. Casalegno hints at the possibility of Season 3 deviating from the original storyline, leaving viewers guessing about Belly's ultimate choice.
In July, he stated exclusively to us that he strongly believes there is a high likelihood of that happening, in response to a query about whether Han has made a choice regarding altering the conclusion of the series. Additionally, Casalegno discussed the hurdles encountered by his character in the last book, titled "We'll Always Have Summer."

“I make an effort to maintain authenticity in that aspect. Obviously, I am aware of his eventual destination and the unfolding events. However, I do not place excessive emphasis on that. Jenny's writing is so exceptional that I can naturally reach that point without needing to steer it in a particular direction,” Casalegno explained to Us. “Therefore, although I am aware of his destination, I approach it on a day-to-day basis because that's all we can do. We must cherish the present moment and make the most of our time.”
Han, who is 43 years old, suggested that she is not excluding the possibility of making changes from books to TV.
When interviewed by Variety in June 2022, she stated, "I had to carefully balance the expectations of the fans with the creative direction of the show. It was crucial for me to ensure that readers of the book felt satisfied with the story we were telling, while also understanding that this adaptation would have its own unique elements. These considerations were constantly on my mind."
Han also hinted at potential surprises in the show, saying, "I don't want to reveal too much, but considering the books have been available for a long time, anything could happen with the show. I approached it with an open mind, exploring various possibilities."
The Summer I Turned Pretty has been renewed for season 3.
