In The Sims 4, players can embark on a unique journey of storytelling as they control the lives of their Sims. Whether it's triumphs or failures, players have the power to shape these experiences. Sims have the freedom to explore various worlds and communities, forging friendships and even romantic connections.
If players feel that their Sims have found their perfect match, they can allow them to flirt, date, and ultimately get married. However, there may come a time when players want to disrupt the peaceful lives of their Sims by choosing to initiate a divorce. Whether it be a change of heart or simply a desire to introduce chaos, here's a guide on how to divorce a Sim's spouse and embrace the single life once more.
How to Get Divorced in The Sims 4
Players can initiate marriage for their Sims by engaging in romantic interactions with their partners until their relationship reaches the proposal stage. Once married, Sims have the option to cohabit, have children, venture into business, or pursue any other desires together. Although marriage entails a significant commitment, it is not immutable, and players can initiate divorce for their Sims at their discretion.
The reasons for Sims divorcing are aplenty. Uncovering a partner's infidelity or realizing irreconcilable differences in traits can strain the relationship profoundly. Moreover, Sims may even engage in autonomous arguments, indicating that it might be time to consider a separation.
Similar to marriage, divorce is not a quick fix that can be effortlessly accessed. In The Sims, players have the ability to end relationships without causing harm by choosing the "be friends" option. However, dissolving a marriage is a more complicated process that necessitates engaging in a negative interaction before the divorce option becomes available.
To dissolve the bond between two Sims players, their relationship bars will be diminished. Opting for one Sim to betray the other is the swiftest method to achieve this outcome. Alternatively, continuously engaging in spiteful or furious interactions can also achieve the desired result. Players will find the option to initiate a divorce under the "Mean" interaction menu.
Selecting the Divorce option will result in an immediate divorce for the Sims involved, accompanied by feelings of sadness. If there are children present during the divorce, they, too, will experience sadness. At this point, players are given the choice to either have the Sims live separately or continue living together.
Opting for immediate cohabitation may not be advisable since the Sims will harbor feelings of anger and become upset simply by being in each other's presence. However, it is possible for divorced Sims to reconcile with some effort and by strengthening their relationship, or they can choose to accept their losses and move forward.
The Sims 4 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
