Naturally, this is all a clever deception: Spike is, in fact, operating covertly as an undercover agent, infiltrating the ranks of the demon resistance to gather vital intel regarding their sinister schemes and, ultimately, facilitate their downfall. What adds an intriguing twist to the tale is that Spike finds himself collaborating with a faction of demons in Los Angeles, despite his previous involvement in Angel's fight against the impending demon apocalypse.

Spike’s involvement in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel brings back another familiar face: Clem. The character last appeared on TV in season 7, episode 19, "Empty Places." During that time, he was fleeing from Sunnydale alongside other townspeople due to the impending apocalypse. However, it seems he managed to find his way back to the group following the events of Buffy's finale. Slayers informs us that Clem is still sticking around and partnering with Spike to fight on the side of good. A massive sinkhole emerged, causing the town to collapse inward. This catastrophic occurrence persists to this day in Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. Although the surrounding vicinity undergoes redevelopment, the sinkhole itself remains fenced off and poses a significant danger if accessed. One of the proposed plans involves filling the sinkhole with landfill and eventually constructing a playground on its surface. Given the significance of Sunnydale as a location, it wouldn't be astonishing if efforts were made to fully revive it.

Emma Caulfield reprises her roles as two versions of Anya in Slayers: Anya from another reality and Anyanka, the vengeance demon. The presence of a younger girl playing baseball in the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer had raised doubts about this, sparking questions regarding the timing of it all.
