Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef have announced their split, surprising fans. However, their friends were not surprised at all. According to an exclusive source at We, Ricky and Jwan have been dealing with relationship problems for the past two years. The source also mentioned that the couple had been open with their friends about these issues despite getting married in 2017.
Despite participating in therapy together to address their issues, the 51-year-old singer and his estranged husband, aged 38, unfortunately could not resolve their differences, according to an insider. The couple intends on sharing 50/50 custody of their children and maintaining a friendly relationship for the sake of their family. Martin and Yosef have two biological children, a 4-year-old daughter named Lucia and a 3-year-old son named Renn. Additionally, the "Livin' La Vida Loca" artist became a father to 14-year-old twins, Matteo and Valentino, through surrogacy in 2008.
Martin and Yosef, an artist, first connected "through Instagram, believe it or not," Martin disclosed during Paramount+’s Behind the Music in 2021. "I came across his artwork and thought to myself, 'Who is the artist?' When I saw the name 'Jwan Yosef,' I found it to be incredibly cool, but I wanted to put a face to it. And when I finally saw his face, I knew it was over. He was truly a stunning man."
Following their chance encounter on Instagram, the two continued to exchange text messages for a duration of six months before Martin eventually made the journey to London to meet Yosef.
"When I stepped out of the car and laid eyes on him, I couldn't help but think, 'Wow, wait a moment, I believe this is the man I've been waiting for, the one I want to spend my life with and marry,'" Martin reminisced.
After getting married, Martin opened up about the challenges he and Yosef faced after their daughter Lucia was born in 2018. In an interview with Univision in June 2020, Martin revealed that he had experienced difficulties with his husband due to his own strong desire to be in control. "Sometimes, when Jwan offered to change her, I would stubbornly say, 'No! I'll do it myself,'" Martin recalled.

Three years later, the ex-couple announced their split in a statement to People on Thursday, July 6.
"We are choosing to part ways in our marriage, with an emphasis on love, respect, and dignity, especially for the sake of our children. Throughout these incredible years together, we hold immense gratitude for the experiences we shared as a couple. Our primary goal now is to maintain a healthy family dynamic, fostering a relationship based on peace and friendship. We will continue to jointly raise our children, preserving the mutual respect and love that still exists between us."
Martin and Yosef's separation occurs following Martin's brother's accusation of an inappropriate relationship between the musician and his nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez. Martin's lawyer vehemently denounced these allegations as "awful" and "disgusting," providing further clarity that the accuser is grappling with significant mental health challenges. Subsequently, the case against Martin was dropped in July 2022.
