Melissa McCarthy has had her fair share of negative acting experiences. According to The Guardian, there was one particular project where the environment was so toxic that it motivated her to establish her own production company alongside her husband, Ben Falcone.
McCarthy recounted a past work experience where the working environment was so tumultuous and unfriendly that it greatly affected her well-being. She shared that she experienced physical symptoms such as eye swelling due to the excessive negativity around her. However, McCarthy opted not to divulge the specific name of the production she was working on during that time.
"People were crying and visibly upset by this one individual," she explained. "The manipulation was successful because this person would terminate those I cared about in order to control me. It was a highly effective tactic."
To prevent a similar situation from occurring, McCarthy and Falcone now conduct a thorough screening process when hiring new employees and actively work towards fostering a positive and healthy work environment.
"We were amazed and appreciative of the opportunity to create our own unique worlds. It inspired us to build the one that we've always envisioned, a world where everyone's viewpoint is valued and kindness is paramount," shared McCarthy. Catch her in the upcoming film "The Little Mermaid," set to release on May 26th.
