Mirror Force, an iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! card, defied the trend of becoming irrelevant as new series debuted in the anime. Surprisingly, it continued to have a significant impact on the game even with the transformation it has undergone over the years. With each new series introducing a new summoning mechanic, the game's power level increased, allowing duelists to easily summon their strongest monsters. However, this also made certain iconic cards, like Mirror Force, appear even more effective than before. In the latest series, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, the introduction of Link Summoning brought forth powerful monsters that could be easily summoned but were limited to Attack mode, making them vulnerable to the classic card, Mirror Force.
Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Made Mirror Force Powerful Again
Link monsters exclusively played in the attack position created a challenge for duelists to effectively counter the trap card Mirror Force. This trap possesses the ability to obliterate all of your opponent's attack position monsters when they initiate an attack. The anime greatly emphasized the impact of this interaction by portraying Mirror Force as a formidable and enigmatic weapon utilized by the antagonist Revolver. Revolver masterfully employed this trap to triumph over formidable opponents, even incorporating new support cards centered around Mirror Force to augment its potency. Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS ingeniously paid homage to a classic card while imbuing its chief adversary with heightened menace.
This is particularly gratifying considering the infrequency with which the Yu-Gi-Oh! series incorporates older cards. Occasionally, cards featured in the anime will make subtle references to earlier iterations from previous series, such as the surprising creature Kuriboh, who manifests in nearly every Yu-Gi-Oh! series in some form or another. Yet, employing an unaltered version of an older card remains an uncommon occurrence. While this approach aligns with the objective of arousing enthusiasm among new fans of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game and encouraging them to make purchases, it often disappoints aficionados of older cards who yearn to witness their triumphs. Fortunately, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS successfully addresses this predicament through its brilliant utilization of Mirror Force.
Mirror Force Became A Powerful Card, But Only In The Anime
Interestingly enough, the power level of Mirror Force in the anime did not translate into a tangible threat in the trading card game with the introduction of Links. This may make the characters' fear of the card in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS appear somewhat ridiculous from the perspective of the real-world game. However, the anime manages to create a sense of believability around this threat and pays homage to a classic card, which not only appeals to original Yu-Gi-Oh! fans but also captivates new ones.
