In addition to being a horror game, Sons of the Forest is primarily a survival game. Players find themselves stranded on a mysterious, deserted island after a crash landing, accompanied by only one other survivor. Their ultimate objective is to escape the island, all while fighting against both cannibals and the unforgiving elements of nature.
To endure, players must prioritize their well-being by ensuring they consume nourishing meals, get sufficient sleep, and remain adequately hydrated. The consumption of food is crucial as it directly impacts their overall strength and stamina, while also serving as a means to restore their health when cooked. While hunting is an option, those who prefer a more settled approach can cultivate a variety of plants at their base, ranging from sustenance to medicinal purposes. The mastery of gardening emerges as a pivotal activity within Sons of the Forest.
How to Grow Plants in Sons of the Forest
Players can grow plants as soon as they land on the island. Planting seeds straight into the ground is not an option, but players can build wooden planters for their crops.
The blueprints for planters are inside the Survivalist Handbook, accessed by pressing "B." There are two kinds of planters, including the following:
Standing Planter (18 Sticks)
Wall Planter (16 Sticks)
Players have the freedom to choose and position the desired wall planter. To construct it, sticks will be required. Players can acquire sticks through various means such as picking them up, using an axe or chainsaw to fell small trees, or instructing Kelvin to collect them. Additionally, players can command Kelvin to complete the construction process.
To cultivate a diverse range of plants, players need to construct multiple planters as each can accommodate only a single type of seed. While berry bushes serve as a reliable food source, players can also create Energy or Medicine mixes by incorporating the correct ingredients.
How to Get Seeds in Sons of the Forest
Seeds can be obtained by either picking berries or eradicating plants. The vast forest is abundant with a variety of plants, encompassing both edible and medicinal species that players can gather. The plants that yield seeds comprise the following:
- Aloe Vera
Arrowleaf
Blackberry
Blueberry
Chicory
Devil's Club
Guarana Berry
Fireweed
Horsetail
Salmonberry
Yarrow
All collected seeds will be automatically added to the inventory. To plant them, players need to approach a planter and wait for the leaf icon to appear. Interacting with the planter will display any seeds that can be placed.
Crops reach their full size within two to three in-game days without the need for watering. Regardless of their placement, they will grow. Kelvin and Virginia will consume any edible plants from the crops automatically.
The early access version of Sons of the Forest is currently available for PC.
