Two and a Half Men cocreator Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen’s longstanding feud is over.

During an interview with Variety on Wednesday, November 1, Lorre, who is 71 years old, recounted how he contacted Sheen's representative when he assumed that Sheen was in a good state and the feud between them was no longer relevant. Despite feeling nervous about reconnecting with Sheen, who is 58 years old, Lorre discovered that the actor was also willing to move on from the past.

"We instantly recalled our friendship as soon as we began conversing," Lorre expressed. "And that camaraderie resurfaced abruptly. I don't want to be overly sentimental, but it was therapeutic. Moreover, he was completely willing to poke fun at himself."

In 2011, Lorre and Sheen experienced a rift when Sheen referred to the showrunner as a "contaminated little maggot" after the decision was made to halt production of Two and a Half Men due to Sheen's personal problems. Consequently, Sheen was dismissed from the CBS sitcom.

More than ten years later, the duo have not only reconciled but have also resumed their collaboration. While working on the pilot script for their new comedic series, Bookie, set to debut on November 30, Lorre and Nick Bakay decided that they needed a real-life star to portray a fictional version of themselves. Lorre quickly recognized that Sheen would be the ideal choice.

"I recall Charlie's strong interest in sports betting and his frequent tales about it, particularly during better times," the producer shared with Variety. "When he attended the table read for that episode, we embraced and it was a wonderful moment. Charlie proceeded to deliver an exceptional performance at the read-through, as if we had never skipped a beat, showcasing his exceptional talent."

Bakay, who is 64 years old, initially felt apprehensive about Lorre's decision to cast Sheen. However, he also understood Lorre well enough to comprehend the implications of this choice. Bakay was aware of the hidden depths beneath the surface and sensed that Lorre was prepared to embark on a more profound journey.

Bakay commented that Sheen appeared to be in excellent condition when he attended the initial reading of the pilot. He described Sheen as relaxed and charismatic, and praised his exceptional performance during the table read.

During his tenure on Two and a Half Men, Sheen battled with alcohol and drug dependency before achieving sobriety in late 2017. In an exclusive interview with We magazine in February 2019, the Anger Management star revealed the pivotal moment when he realized he needed to initiate a transformation.

"It was a Sunday when my daughter urgently called me, saying, 'I have to go to this appointment right away,' and I had already consumed a few drinks," he remembered. "In that moment, I realized, 'Gosh, I'm unavailable. I'm not responsible, and there's no honor in that.' That night, I reflected on it all... If you can't prioritize being there for your children's basic needs, then something truly needs to change."

Sheen is the father of Cassandra, 38, from his relationship with high school sweetheart Paula Speert, Sami, 19, and Lola, 18, from his previous marriage to Denise Richards, and twin sons Bob and Max, 14, from his former wife Brooke Mueller.
