Hudgens, on the other hand, remained silent about the break-up but hinted at a potentially revealing story in a September 2022 interview with Nylon, stating, "I’ve... been through two very long life-changing relationships, and no one really knows what happened except for me. When I write my memoir, it’ll be amazing." Although she didn't explicitly name Butler, fans speculate she was referring to him and former flame Zac Efron.

The separation of Butler and Hudgens was attributed to their busy careers rather than any scandalous reasons, according to a source close to the pair. The source explained that their demanding work schedules and frequent travel had caused strain on their relationship, despite being a great couple. However, in 2023, the former couple made headlines after an uncomfortable encounter at Vanity Fair’s Oscars afterparty.
