Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen's relationship and Kroy Biermann and Kim Zolciak-Biermann's relationship are examples of NFL love stories that didn't have a happy ending.
After retiring from football in February 2023, Brady started dating supermodel Gisele Bündchen in 2006. However, just two months later, he discovered that his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan, was pregnant with their first child. Their son, Jack, was born in 2007, and Gisele became his stepmother, despite the unforeseen circumstances.
Brady and Bündchen tied the knot in February 2009 and later welcomed their two children, son Benjamin and daughter Vivian, in 2009 and 2012 respectively. However, after being together for 13 years, speculation arose in 2022 when Brady decided to come out of his retirement from pro football after just six weeks. The couple confirmed their separation in October of that year.
In May 2023, Zolciak-Biermann filed for divorce from Biermann after being married for 11 years. This led to a lengthy legal battle between the two. Biermann even accused Zolciak-Biermann of having a gambling problem in his attempt to gain full custody of their four minor children: Kroy "KJ" Jr., Kash, and twins Kaia and Kane. Zolciak-Biermann denied these allegations made against her parenting. (Biermann had previously adopted Zolciak-Biermann's oldest daughters, Brielle and Ariana, after their wedding in November 2011.)

During that time, she accused Jay of engaging in inappropriate marital conduct, which she believed made living together dangerous and improper. She cited "irreconcilable differences" as the main reason for their separation, while Jay did not respond to her allegations.
During their divorce proceedings, the couple engaged in disputes regarding the shared custody of their sons, Camden and Jaxon, as well as their daughter, Saylor.
