Replaced, a stylish 2D pixel art platformer with cyberpunk aesthetics, will be released on Xbox Game Pass in 2024.
Despite facing delays caused by the ongoing Russio-Ukrainian war, Sad Cat Studios from Ukraine remains determined to make Replaced the best it can possibly be. By moving the release date to 2024, there is an opportunity for Replaced to truly shine amidst a packed roster of Xbox Game Pass titles slated for 2023.
Fans of the cyberpunk genre should be excited about the upcoming release of Replaced, a stylish 2D pixel art platformer, on Xbox Game Pass next year. This game made quite an impression when it was first revealed at Xbox's E3 2021 games showcase with its stunning pixel art, captivating cyberpunk-style music, impressive combat animations, and smooth 2D platforming. Since then, Replaced has gained a lot of anticipation among Game Pass subscribers.
Replaced is the debut game by Sad Cat Studios, a team based in Ukraine. Like GSC Game World, the studio behind another highly anticipated Game Pass title, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Sad Cat Studios has faced challenges due to the ongoing Russio-Ukrainian war. Because of these circumstances, Replaced's original 2022 release was delayed, and a new trailer at The Game Awards 2022 revealed a planned release in 2023. However, unfortunately, Replaced has recently announced yet another delay, pushing its release to 2024.
After announcing a delay, Sad Cat Studios took to Twitter to provide an update on the development progress of Replaced. In their statement, Sad Cat expressed their commitment to delivering the best possible game, which necessitated additional time. Revealing a glimpse into the game's scope, Sad Cat shared that Replaced will boast over 500 meticulously hand-drawn animations solely for the platforming aspect. With the evident dedication and effort poured into the project, Replaced has the potential to be a standout indie title in Microsoft's Game Pass catalog for 2024. Considering the crowded lineup for the remainder of 2023, with titles like Lies of P, Cocoon, Jusant by Don't Nod, as well as Starfield and Forza Motorsport from Xbox, shifting to 2024 may prove to be a strategic move for Replaced, giving it more space to shine and carve its own path.
Creating a game as ambitious as Replaced is no easy task, especially for a brand-new studio. To make matters even more challenging, they are doing it amidst a war. Despite the difficult circumstances, Sad Cat Studios developers are diligently working on what could potentially be one of the top indie games of 2024. While it is doubtful that Replaced will make an appearance at this year's Game Awards, fans can look forward to hearing more about it in the upcoming year, possibly at another Xbox showcase. Replaced is scheduled to release on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
