6 Your Day, America
At the beginning of The Morning Show, UBA held the top spot as the leading network and home of the show-within-the-show bearing the same name. Your Day, America, its primary rival in the morning news segment, continued to thrive by capitalizing on UBA's various scandals. The executives behind Your Day, America remain largely mysterious, although Mindy Kaling has made multiple guest appearances on The Morning Show as Audra, one of the anchors from Your Day, America. While Cory and other UBA executives are known for their cutthroat tactics, the limited knowledge surrounding Your Day, America makes it difficult to ascertain whether they would resort to hacking their main competitor.
If the cyberattack were actually attributed to Your Day, America and exposed, it would undoubtedly have a detrimental impact on their reputation as a news organization. While they may stand to gain from undermining UBA, the consequences could far outweigh any potential benefits. Even though Laura Peterson now works for YDA after her return in The Morning Show season 3, her association with Bradley makes her susceptible to being targeted. The hackers have threatened to release a private and intimate video that Bradley had sent to Laura, and it would be a grave error for YDA to potentially harm their esteemed co-anchor.
5 Hannah's Dad
After Hannah tragically overdosed and died in the first season finale of The Morning Show, her father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against UBA. Season 2 was wrought with various threats to UBA's stability, such as Maggie Brener's revealing tell-all book and the imminent financial collapse of their new streaming service. The resolution of the lawsuit remains unclear, but significant events must have transpired between Hannah's father and UBA during the two-year gap between seasons 2 and 3 of The Morning Show.
4 Fred Micklen
In the season 2 finale of The Morning Show, it was revealed that due to financial constraints, he was unable to cover the legal expenses associated with the lawsuit. Surprisingly, Claire stepped in to foot the bill. Despite UBA's firm stance against paying the $119.2 million settlement sought by Hannah's father, if they had chosen to pay him, he might have utilized the funds to orchestrate a cyberattack. Hannah's father confided in Cory, expressing that the money held no significance unless he could use it to bring her back to life or provide her with a better father figure. However, it's possible that he could have employed these funds to exact revenge by hacking into UBA's systems.
Former UBA president Fred Micklen, who was generously rewarded with a sum of $119.2 million to depart from the network, possesses substantial financial resources that could be utilized to launch an attack on UBA. Although his involvement in The Morning Show season 2 was significantly diminished compared to his noteworthy presence in season 1, Fred's absence in the first two episodes of The Morning Show season 3 does not guarantee his vanishing. With Fred's continued existence, he remains a potential menace and a person of interest, even after The Morning Show season 2 disposed of Mitch.
Despite having received the payout from UBA, Fred remains dissatisfied and refuses to acknowledge his own actions and his role in cultivating a toxic and hazardous work environment on The Morning Show. Alex and Bradley's broadcast coup at the conclusion of the first season ruined Fred's reputation, leaving him with nothing to lose. It is evident that misery seeks company in his case. Fred was the individual who attempted to tarnish Hannah's image through the media and who leaked the video of Alex at Mitch's funeral. Constantly seeking revenge, Fred easily fits the role of the antagonist for Season 3 of The Morning Show.
3 Russian Hackers
The Morning Show characters themselves identified a group of Russian hackers as another potential suspect. In 2016, Russian military intelligence agents hacked into the emails of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign staff. Since then, the topic of Russian hackers has remained prominent in the news, whether due to actual cyberattacks or suspicion and fear. Given that UBA is an American news organization and with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, it wouldn't come as a surprise if UBA was targeted for its specific coverage. This aligns with the characters' theory about January 6, which could further explore the risks journalists face in their pursuit of delivering the truth.
2 A Far-Right Extremist Group
1 Paul Marks
: In season 3, episode 1 of The Morning Show, Bradley demonstrated her professional growth by being honored with a First Amendment Award for her coverage of the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol. While there were numerous potential targets at UBA, the fact that the hackers specifically targeted Bradley raised concerns among the characters, suggesting that it may have been a result of her reporting on the January 6 events. If this cyberhack is indeed a direct response to UBA and Bradley's coverage of the Capitol attack, it is likely that a far-right extremist group is responsible. Just like other suspects, they would be seeking revenge for the harm caused to them by UBA.
Paul Marks, played by Jon Hamm, has emerged as the primary suspect in The Morning Show season 3. As a corporate tycoon aiming to acquire UBA, Paul's motives are in question. While Cory privately negotiated a deal with him, the rest of the UBA team opposed his takeover despite their financial difficulties. This has created an aura of danger surrounding Paul, with Stella even cautioning Cory about his cunning nature.
Paul is considered a likely suspect by Cory due to his strong motivation to hack UBA. According to Cory, Paul may be using the network as leverage to negotiate a favourable deal. Additionally, Paul's resentment towards Alex's departure from Hyperion One suggests that he may be interested in disclosing confidential information to cause significant damage to UBA's reputation. This could force the company to make a substantial offer to Paul in order to avoid financial collapse. While it remains uncertain whether Paul is the hacker in The Morning Show season 3, he is emerging as a captivating opponent for Cory.
