Nintendo is keeping the details of its new Princess Peach-centered Super Mario spin-off game a secret for now. However, a new theory may provide some insight into what the game has in store. The theory revolves around the setting shown in the Princess Peach game trailer.
Princess Peach made her debut in 1985 and has been a core element of the Super Mario franchise ever since. She is best known as the damsel in distress, although some games have given her more active roles. One notable example is the 2006 release of Super Princess Peach, where Bowser changes his usual plans and kidnaps the Mario Bros., leaving Peach as the sole hero. This game is considered a hidden gem among the DS library, and fans have been hoping for a follow-up. In the June 2023 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo finally granted their wish, but only provided a glimpse of the game, showcasing its stage-like setting and a mysterious outfit-changing panel.
GameXplain, a well-known gaming publication, has gained popularity since its establishment in 2009. The publication is recognized for its expertise in analyzing video game trailers and generating theories. Recently, in a concise 40-second TikTok video, GameXplain presented its speculation regarding the upcoming Peach game. According to GameXplain, the game could draw inspiration from Disney's 1991 classic, Beauty and the Beast. This particular film was notable for empowering its princesses, a trend that Nintendo has also embraced in its other Direct announcements. Therefore, GameXplain suggests that this theory is not far-fetched.
To support their theory, GameXplain pointed out several similarities between the town square's design in the trailer and the one depicted in the movie. Additionally, they highlighted the detail of Peach wearing a ribbon in her ponytail, reminiscent of Belle's appearance in Beauty and the Beast. Another significant observation made by GameXplain was the castle set, which is shown covered in thorns. This detail aligns with the common motif of thorns found in the film. Finally, GameXplain proposed the idea of Bowser, typically portrayed as a turtle monster, actually being a transformed handsome prince. This concept hints at Bowser's potential role in the game, possibly reflecting a stage play narrative. Nintendo has previously explored the character of Bowser in various ways, including the recent Super Mario Bros. Movie, making this idea consistent with their established pattern.
It will undoubtedly be intriguing to witness Peach finally receiving her second solo game in nearly two decades, regardless of the outcome of this new title. The decision to do so is logical, considering Peach's portrayal in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and given the movie's triumph, it appears that Nintendo is keen on continuing with the successful formula from the silver screen and creating a unified brand.
Scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch, the highly anticipated Peach-centric Super Mario game is expected to make its debut in 2024.
