Meg 2: The Trench director, Ben Wheatley, has provided a positive update on the potential for The Meg 3. Ahead of the release of the first sequel, Wheatley revealed that there is room for further exploration in The Meg universe, which may justify a third installment. Offering his thoughts to Total Film (via GamesRadar), Wheatley discussed the return of Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, who leads a research team on a journey to the depths of the ocean. During their mission, they encounter additional Megalodon sharks and other colossal creatures, ultimately leading to their escape from the ocean's depths.

You don't want to talk about it until Meg 2 is out. But I hope so. There's a lot more to explore in that world. It's very rich. The international-ness of it is very interesting.

What To Expect From Meg 2: The Trench

The Meg 3: Dive into a Thrilling Oceanic Saga With Endless Surprises!

Meg 2: The Trench aims to intensify the already thrilling action found in The Meg franchise. Featuring the escape of three sharks from an underwater trench, alongside a colossal squid and numerous smaller prehistoric creatures, Meg 2: The Trench promises to deliver an exhilarating action-packed film. While traces of horror may still linger, it appears that Meg 2: The Trench draws inspiration from the Fast & Furious series, incorporating extravagant, CGI-filled action sequences.

The trailer for Meg 2: The Trench unfortunately revealed a death that occurs in the film. However, there are still expected to be many surprises in store. The cast of Meg 2: The Trench includes Wu Jing (The Battle at Lake Changjin), Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Rambo: Last Blood), and Skyler Samuels (Scream Queens), among others. With the addition of these new characters and creatures, it appears that Meg 2: The Trench is aiming to transform The Meg into a successful action franchise. Although it is currently unknown what Wheatley's plans are for a potential Meg 3, there is ample source material for him to draw inspiration from. The Meg film series is based on Steve Alten's eight-book series of the same name. While The Meg 3 may not be in the immediate future, the success of Meg 2: The Trench could pave the way for numerous sequels.
