Highlights

Obito Uchiha had dreams of becoming Hokage like Naruto and had similarities in terms of their personalities and dynamics within their squads.

Obito's life took a dramatic turn when Madara Uchiha saved him and appointed him as his successor in the ambitious Eye of the Moon Plan. Over time, Obito's concern for his friends faded as Madara shattered his mind and spirit, resulting in his unwavering loyalty to fulfill the plan.

During his early appearances in Naruto, Obito Uchiha, a young shinobi mentored by Minato Namikaze, aspired to become Hokage, just like Naruto. They shared several similarities in terms of their personalities, ideals, and the dynamics of their three-man squads. Obito played second fiddle to the genius Kakashi Hatake, similar to how Naruto faced a similar situation with the natural prodigy, Sasuke Uchiha. Obito also harbored deep feelings for his teammate, Rin Nohara, while Naruto initially admired Sakura Haruno but did not let it consume him as Obito did.

However, everything changed for Obito during the Battle of Kannabi Bridge in the Third Shinobi World War. He suffered severe injuries, losing half of his body in a collapsing cavern, forcing him to come to terms with his fate. Unbeknownst to him, this was just the start of his journey. Obito was saved by the elderly Madara Uchiha, who nursed him back to health and manipulated events that ultimately led Obito to become his successor in realizing the Eye of the Moon Plan in Naruto. During this time, Madara also trained Obito to unlock his full potential, transforming him into an incredibly powerful shinobi who rivaled even his mentor.

The Ghost Of The Uchiha

The Master Plan Unveiled: Madara's Ultimate Successor for Naruto Revealed!

After the intense battle with Hashirama Senju at the Valley of the End, where it was believed that Madara had met his demise, his Sharingan was triggered, activating his Izanagi. This was a contingency plan he had developed prior to his supposed death. As a result, Madara was brought back to life. He utilized a small portion of Hashirama's flesh that he had obtained during the battle to heal his injuries and then retreated into seclusion for several decades. Near the end of his life, a significant event occurred - Madara successfully unlocked the Rinnegan. This happened as a result of the combination of Indra's and Asura's chakra that was generated by grafting Hashirama's flesh into his own body.

Taking further steps in his plan, Madara summoned the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path and utilized the remaining samples of Hashirama's DNA to cultivate a mindless clone of Hashirama on the statue. This decision was made in order to create an army of White Zetsu for his ultimate scheme – a grand endeavor to reshape the world according to his own desires. His inspiration for this plan came from an ancient text inscribed on the Uchiha Stone Tablet, which described the Infinite Tsukuyomi, the ultimate genjutsu capable of enslaving an entire planet for eternity.

Guiding A Worthy Successor

Unfortunately for Madara, his plans took much longer to come to fruition than he expected. He quickly realized the importance of finding someone to carry on his will after his death. With this in mind, he decided to transplant his own Rinnegan into a young Nagato, hoping that Nagato would be able to revive him at the right time. However, Madara also understood that he needed someone to guide Nagato in this task. That's when Obito came into the picture.

In his quest for a worthy successor, Madara carefully observed Konohagakure's shinobi, seeking the one who would carry on his mission. To extend his own lifespan, he linked himself to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, allowing him just enough time to impart his knowledge to the chosen one. After the Battle of Kannabi Bridge, a White Zetsu brought a severely injured Obito to the Mountains Graveyard under Madara's orders. There, the elder Uchiha healed Obito's wounds using Hashirama's cells and also placed a Forbidden Individual Curse Tag on his heart as a precaution against potential betrayal.

Upon waking up, Obito underwent extensive training and quickly recovered. During this time, he endured Madara's negative views on the shinobi world, but he disregarded them as he still held deep affection for his friends. Recognizing Obito's idealistic perspective, Madara set out to manipulate it to align with his own desires. To achieve this, he orchestrated a devastating event that shattered Obito's sanity and willpower, forcing him to comply with any of Madara's commands. Madara orchestrated the kidnapping of Rin, whom Obito was deeply in love with, by shinobi from Kirigakure. In addition, he had the Three Tails sealed within her, turning her into a dangerous threat that could wreak havoc upon Konohagakure if brought back to the village.

Informing Obito of Kakashi and Rin's peril, Madara urged him to hasten to their aid. Upon his arrival, Obito witnessed Rin impaling herself on Kakashi's Lightning Cutter, sacrificing herself to protect their village. This tragic sight triggered an overwhelming fury in Obito, awakening his Mangekyo Sharingan. Using the newly acquired Wood Release powers he gained while trapped within the Zetsu known as Tobi, he mercilessly slaughtered the Kirigakure shinobi. Faced with a life devoid of purpose, Obito ultimately returned to Madara, committing his loyalty and life to him.

The One To Fulfill The Eye Of The Moon Plan

Once Madara successfully persuaded Obito to join his cause, he faced the responsibility of training his successor to become a capable shinobi who could carry on his legacy. Obito's possession of the powerful Mangekyo Sharingan kekkei genkai ability known as Kamui, which granted him the ability to become intangible and teleport to another dimension, greatly aided Madara in this task. With Madara's expert guidance, Obito, who had shown slow development until then, managed to reach astonishing levels of skill that almost matched those of his mentor.

This can be seen in Obito's later battles against formidable opponents such as Minato Namikaze, Konan of the Akatsuki, and the Allied Shinobi Forces during the Fourth Shinobi World War. He was able to effortlessly take on jinchuriki like Killer B and Naruto. In fact, considering these impressive feats, it wouldn't be a stretch to consider Obito one of the most talented and formidable shinobi of his generation in the Naruto universe.

In addition, he possessed the ability to maneuver unnoticed within the shadows of the shinobi realm and exert control over influential individuals like the Fourth Mizukage and Nagato, who later became known as Pain. This served as undeniable proof of his exceptional skills as a cunning tactician. Ultimately, witnessing Obito's complete mastery of the knowledge imparted to him by Madara, the latter decided to sever his ties with the Demon Statue of the Outer Path. As a gesture of recognition, Madara bestowed his own name upon Obito, a name that Obito would carry until Madara's eventual revival.
