The Big Picture
The Nun II is a significant improvement on the first film and feels more like a part of the Conjuring franchise that fans love.
Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren, possibly direct descendants of Saint Lucy, uncover their connection as they confront Valak in a intense face-off.
The mid-credits scene in The Nun II teases that Lorraine's association with Valak is not yet concluded, implying a potential ultimate confrontation in The Last Rites.
When the first installment of the Conjuring Universe premiered in theaters ten years ago, it was praised by critics and fans alike for its fresh take on paranormal horror. Despite its modest budget of $20 million, The Conjuring earned an impressive $300 million worldwide in 2013, solidifying its place as the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. The franchise includes three main installments, showcasing the popular case files of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. In 2014, the franchise introduced its first spin-off with Annabelle the Doll, one of the haunted artifacts possessed by the Warrens. The fan-favorite demonic nun Valak, portrayed by Bonnie Aarons, followed suit in 2018 with The Nun.
The Nun II, a sequel to the Valak-led Nun movie, exceeds expectations by integrating itself seamlessly into the franchise and its beloved characters. Set in 1956, four years after the events of The Nun, the film follows Sister Irene as she once again confronts the terrifying Valak. Director Michael Chaves delighted fans by exploring a potential connection between Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren, dropping subtle hints throughout the movie that careful viewers may pick up on. Who Is Saint Lucy In 'The Nun II'?

The legend of Saint Lucy, a Roman Christian martyr who died for her faith in approximately 304, serves as the basis for a storyline and religious figures in the Conjuring Universe. In The Nun II, Sister Irene learns from a librarian at the Palais des Papes that Saint Lucy's eyes were gouged out before her brutal execution. Supposedly, her family retrieved her eyes, which are now considered a powerful holy relic hidden at the boarding school Sister Irene is investigating. The librarian reveals that Valak, a fallen angel turned demon, is drawn to Saint Lucy's descendants due to its desire for the relic. Interestingly, the librarian shares a story of Saint Lucy surviving being set on fire without burning, which may ring a bell. But we'll discuss that later.
According to some Catholic tales, Saint Lucy possessed the ability to foresee future events through visions believed to be from God. In The Conjuring 2, Lorraine experiences a vision of Ed's death when she first encounters Valak. He reassures her that they both understand her premonitions are divine and grants her the power to prevent the depicted events from occurring. This chilling introduction to Saint Lucy and her supernatural abilities implies that Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren, who possess their own impressive and similar skills, could possibly be her direct descendants.
