In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 3, George's determination to bring back his deceased girlfriend leads him to form an unlikely alliance with a terrorist. Set in the year 2022, the TNT series revolves around the secretive organization known as The Lazarus Project. Tasked with preventing global catastrophes, the agency employs a time machine to travel back to a specific checkpoint, always falling on July 1, in order to try and avert disaster.
After joining the team, George's girlfriend tragically passes away, prompting him to collaborate with Dennis Rebrov in a bid to return to the previous checkpoint. George's unwavering commitment to resurrecting Sarah compels him to seek the help of Rebrov, a former Lazarus agent who betrayed the organization and has been evading capture. In a climactic moment, Lazarus apprehends Rebrov before he can unleash a warhead capable of destroying the world. George capitalizes on Rebrov's knowledge and confinement in The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 3.
6 Lost Glory Will Have Possession Of Big Boy In The Lazarus Project
In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 1, despite capturing Rebrov, Lazarus and his team still needed to determine the whereabouts of Big Boy, also known as the warhead. Although Rebrov was not cooperative initially, Wes uncovered that the Lost Glory, the group Rebrov had collaborated with in Paris and responsible for detonating Big Boy in the previous time loop, would soon possess the warhead. Leading the Lost Glory is Virgil Isaacs, who now becomes Lazarus' next target.
In episode 3 of The Lazarus Project season 1, not much was revealed about the group. Rebrov referred to them as a "pseudo-fascist, libertarian, free-the-people-from-the-shackles-of-whatever, and so on, nonsense group." This description, coupled with their pursuit of a nuclear warhead, signifies that they are a formidable faction not to be underestimated. Although Lazarus did not apprehend any members of the Lost Glory during the hour, it is likely that viewers will learn more about them and encounter them in future episodes of The Lazarus Project.
5 George Wants To Blow Up The Warhead
Once George learned about the mission to infiltrate the Lost Glory's hideout in the Czech Republic in episode 3 of season 1 of The Lazarus Project, he was immediately determined to be a part of the operation. However, due to his ongoing grief over Sarah's death, Archie prohibited George from joining the other Lazarus agents. Shortly after their conversation, the audience discovered George's strong desire to go to the Czech Republic - he wanted to prevent Lazarus from foiling the plans of the Lost Glory.
If the Lost Glory succeeded in destroying Big Boy, Lazarus would be forced to use the time machine and travel back to the previous July 1st, when Sarah was still alive. George intended to save her from the bus accident, believing that this would fix everything. However, due to Archie's decision to keep him out of the mission, George and Rebrov came up with an alternative plan. Rebrov arranged for him to meet his former partner, Janet, who created a detonator for George. In the concluding moments of episode 3 of The Lazarus Project, George prepared the detonator, but the episode ended before he could activate it and potentially bring about the end of the world.
4 George Betrayed The Lazarus Project
George not only obtained a warhead detonator in episode 3 of The Lazarus Project season 1, but he also committed an act of betrayal by informing the enemy about Lazarus. He had his reasons for doing so - he didn't want the agency to capture the Lost Glory in the Czech Republic, as it would have eliminated the current threat. To achieve this, George sent an anonymous message to the terrorist organization, revealing that their location had been compromised. By the time Lazarus agents arrived, the Lost Glory had already disappeared.
Considering the extensive resources at Lazarus' disposal, it is only a matter of time before they uncover George's deceit. It would be unrealistic if they were not at least somewhat aware of his deviation from the project, particularly given his close association with Rebrov. Furthermore, George used an agency computer to send the message to the Lost Glory - it would be hard to believe that The Lazarus Project was unaware of his betrayal.
3 Rebrov & Janet Lost Their Son
In addition to George's actions in the present-day timeline, episode 3 of The Lazarus Project season 1 delved into the past, specifically 2017 and 2018, to provide insight into Rebrov's backstory. During this time, Rebrov was romantically involved with a fellow Lazarus agent named Janet. Janet became pregnant with their son in November 2017, with the due date falling just before July 2018. However, Lazarus agents were advised against getting pregnant after January and before June, as conceiving after July 1 posed a risk of losing the baby if the timeline needed to be reset.
Everything seemed to be going well until the disappearance of chemical weapons. Shiv believed he had thwarted the threat, but unfortunately, he had killed the wrong person. Janet ended up giving birth two weeks prior to July 1, 2018, and on the late hours of June 30, a Chinese military compound was attacked. As they prepared for a counterattack, Wes initiated a Code Black and reset the timeline back to July 1, 2017, erasing the conception and birth of Rebrov and Janet's baby. Janet pleaded with Wes not to proceed, but she had no other choice. Thus, Rebrov lost his son, and his tragic backstory was only just beginning in episode 3 of The Lazarus Project season 1.
2 Janet Gave Birth Numerous Times Because Of The 2018 Incident
As the seasons of The Lazarus Project continued, Rebrov and Janet faced the consequences of their repeated attempts to conceive. Each time the timeline was reset, Janet gave birth to a different baby, and after July 1, 2018, she finally gave birth to a girl. Despite the challenges they had faced, the couple found happiness in their new child. However, the constant cycle of childbirth took a toll on Janet, leading to physical and emotional exhaustion. This, in turn, affected Rebrov as well. Janet's mental state deteriorated, and she tragically took her own life and that of their daughter by driving into an oncoming truck. She had come to the realization that their daughter, like them, was also aware of the time loops and had experienced being born repeatedly. This heartbreaking revelation sheds light on Rebrov's character and the struggles he faces in The Lazarus Project.
1 Rebrov Revealed Why He Betrayed The Lazarus Project
In The Lazarus Project season 1, episode 3, shortly after Archie and Ross successfully resolved the missile crisis, Rebrov reached a breaking point and confronted Wes. The tense encounter escalated when Rebrov brandished a firearm, targeting Wes and two other agents, demanding access to the time machine in order to destroy it. Rebrov, convinced that the world desired its own demise, believed it was time to refrain from any further intervention. Tragically, he eliminated the two agents, but his actions were thwarted by Shiv before he could proceed any further. Despite their efforts, Rebrov managed to escape before being apprehended.
Subsequently, Rebrov became a fugitive on the run, advising Janet to protect their daughter and go into hiding as well. Thus, when the audience was first introduced to Rebrov during The Lazarus Project premiere, he had been evading capture for several years, driven by the belief that the world's ultimate fate was its own destruction. However, Janet defended Rebrov, asserting that his behavior was a result of immense pain and trauma inflicted by the relentless time loops in 2018. Now, it seems that George may be traversing a similar path as Rebrov in The Lazarus Project.
