Most of the firefighters from 9-1-1 have had a hard time finding love. However, Howie “Chimney” Han was able to find his perfect match in Maddie Buckley, despite a bit of a slow start.

Maddie, a former nurse who became a 9-1-1 operator, moved to Los Angeles in season 2 to be near her brother, Evan “Buck” Buckley. She made this move to escape from an abusive relationship.

A few episodes into the season, Maddie and Buck's fellow 118 buddy Chimney (Kenneth Choi) formed a strong bond. They faced challenges together, including a kidnapping, welcoming a baby, and finding a lost engagement ring.

In the upcoming season 7, set to premiere on ABC in March 2024, fans can look forward to witnessing Maddie and Chimney exchange vows. However, their journey to the altar won't be without obstacles.

Choi shared with TV Insider in March 2024 that even during happy occasions, Chimney and Maddie tend to face conflicts, obstacles, and maybe even some trauma, due to their nature. This suggests that things may not go as smoothly as they hope.

A Chance Encounter

Maddie met Chimney through Buck in 2018 during season 2, episode 6. At the time, Maddie was trying to escape her abusive husband, Doug (played by Brian Hallisay). Despite their initial banter about Mission Impossible, Chimney and Maddie formed a connection. Chimney even surprised Maddie with a gift of the movie on DVD.

First Date Disaster

Chimney knew that Maddie had been through a tough breakup in the past, but he was willing to keep their connection open in season 2, episode 8. He reassured her that his schedule was flexible and he was available whenever she was ready to take the next step.

During season 2, episode 11, Maddie asked Chimney out on a date. However, their plans were interrupted when Chimney was stabbed by Maddie's ex. At the same time, Maddie was kidnapped by Doug. Fortunately, the 118 team came to the rescue and saved Maddie. In the end, Doug met his demise.

A Night to Remember

Despite their chemistry, Maddie and Chimney decided to take some time apart after surviving a traumatic day with Doug. The pair finally kissed in 2019 during season 2, episode 13.

Baby on Board

In season 2, Maddie and Chimney decided to give their relationship a chance and were happily together when season 3 began. By episode 18 in 2020, Chimney had expressed his love for Maddie.

Maddie is absent during the first half of season 5 in 2021 as she leaves L.A. to address her postpartum struggles and insecurities about motherhood. In reality, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt took maternity leave.

Despite feeling abandoned, Chimney doesn’t stop looking for Maddie all over the U.S. He finds her in Boston during season 5, episode 12, which aired in 2022.

On a Break

Shortly after Maddie returned to L.A. with Chimney in season 5, she decided that she wanted to coparent with him but wasn’t ready to be in a relationship.
