The Jaw-Dropping Reason Behind Mission: Impossible 7's Spectacular Opening Scene

Mission: Impossible 7's unique opening scene stemmed from a perfect marriage of budgetary constraints and Paramount's creative vision

Caution: This post includes significant spoilers for Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

The initial beginning of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One experienced significant alterations due to budget constraints and studio demands. This seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible movie series introduces a lethal artificial intelligence called the Entity. Ethan Hunt (portrayed by Tom Cruise) faces the urgent task of locating a means to gain access to and manipulate the Entity, all while adversaries from across the globe converge on its vital location.

The opening of the film treats the audience to a scene featuring the submarine that holds the key to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One's plot. This scene puts the audience ahead of Ethan's hunt throughout the entire movie. The decision to include this scene was ultimately due to budget constraints, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter a year ago. Paramount, however, decided to restructure the film, resulting in the submarine scene appearing in the preceding movie. As a result, the ending of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One becomes somewhat predictable, with the only surprise being that this revelation was already known to the public for the past year.
