The Minnesota Timberwolves have surprised everyone by making it to the Western Conference Finals, giving them a shot at the NBA Finals for the first time in two decades.
The team is riding high after defeating the Denver Nuggets in a thrilling Game 7 of their second round series. This success has brought immense joy to their two standout players, Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.
In the postgame press conference following their important victory against Denver, the two of them took center stage and captivated fans with their dynamic presence. They shared jokes, playful jabs, and even some raw honesty, showcasing what it truly means to revel in the excitement of a win.
(We won't dwell on the details of Game 1 in their conference finals series against the Dallas Mavericks, so let's focus on the positive energy from this victory instead.)
The Timberwolves selected Towns as the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Since then, he has been a part of the Minnesota team, receiving four NBA All-Star selections along the journey. Despite his achievements, Towns had never advanced this far in the playoffs. He took a moment to ponder this until Edwards shared his thoughts.
Towns expressed, "I have been with this team for nine years now. Throughout this time, I have always voiced my desire to achieve success and make a mark with this organization. Despite facing setbacks and disappointments, I am grateful for this moment where we can celebrate our victories. Over these nine years, I have witnessed it all and experienced everything."
“Man, f–k them nine years,” Edwards shot back.
Like a regular comedy duo, Towns set Edwards up again later when he was asked about facing the Mavericks in the next round.
“Honestly, I think for us we’re just so happy about this moment, we can’t even think about the next moment,” he said.
Edwards replied, “I’m thinking about it.”
Then, a reporter suggested that NBA teams often need to experience losses on a big stage before they can achieve victory. While the reporter may have been referring to the second round, the pair had a different perspective.
“We lost the last two years, s–t,” Edwards stated.

"How much more do we have to lose?" Towns inquired.
Finally, the two players taught a lesson on the difference between the Wolves and the Timberwolves - a distinction that may not have been clear to the NBA community. When Edwards mentioned their comeback from a 20-point deficit in Game 7, Towns remarked, "That wasn't how Timberwolves play. That was more like park basketball."
“That was Wolves basketball,” Edwards replied.
“That was Wolves, now we playing Timberwolves,” Towns said.
The Timberwolves — or the Wolves, depending on how they play — return to the court Friday, May 24, against the Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.
