To ensure the return of Donald Glover as the beloved character Troy Barnes, the highly anticipated Community movie will be filmed in Atlanta. This decision was prompted by Glover's demanding commitments to his music career and other projects.
Harmon is worried about the actors' strike and the challenges in coordinating the cast's schedules, which are raising doubts about the film's production. The show heavily relies on Glover's involvement for its chemistry, and there is a widespread belief that the entire cast's return is crucial for the success of the Community movie. Harmon is actively working towards securing the cast's participation in the film.
In order to secure Donald Glover's return for the highly anticipated Community movie, a specific filming condition was set. Dan Harmon, the show's creator, emphasizes the significance of this decision. Since the series finale in 2015, the devoted Community fanbase has embraced the "SixSeasonsAndAMovie" hashtag, turning it from a joke to a symbol of hope. Despite challenges along the way, the movie finally received the green light and is set to debut on Peacock. However, the lingering question remains: will Glover reprise his role as Troy Barnes?
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon revealed that in order to secure Glover's return as Troy Barnes, the Community movie will be filmed in Atlanta instead of Los Angeles. Among all the cast members, Glover has had the busiest schedule with his music career, his FX series Atlanta, and his work on the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The decision to film in Atlanta was the only way to guarantee Glover's availability for the movie. "And Donald was thrilled," Harmon said.
Harmon remains concerned about the ongoing actors' strike and the difficulties in aligning the cast's schedules. He questions the likelihood of everyone's schedules aligning again once they can coordinate. Alison Brie and Danni Pudi had originally cleared their schedules for the Community movie, but that was before the strike. Since then, there may have been changes, and Harmon is unable to communicate with them during the strike, casting doubt on the film's production.
Glover played a crucial role in the show's chemistry, leaving a void in the early episodes of the fifth season. Despite some good moments, the show never quite recaptured the same feeling, leading many to believe that for the Community movie to succeed, the entire cast must return.
Fortunately, Harmon is making every effort to secure the return of the cast for the Community movie. Hopefully, there will be further updates once the actors negotiate a favorable agreement with the studios.
The highly anticipated Community movie is set to premiere on Peacock.
