Born on June 6th, 1978 in Los Angeles, California, Judith Barsi's acting career began at the tender age of five. Her first role was in the 1984 miniseries Fatal Vision. From there, she went on to appear in various popular television shows including The Twilight Zone, Punky Brewster, Cheers, Cagney & Lacey, and The Love Boat.
However, it was her role as Thea in the fourth installment of the successful Jaws franchise, Jaws: The Revenge, that really put Barsi on the map. This newfound fame led to more television appearances in shows like The Tracey Ullman Show, Growing Pains, and St. Elsewhere. It was during this time that Barsi caught the attention of Don Bluth and his team. They cast her in The Land Before Time, her first voiceover role in an animated film. Barsi took to this new form of acting effortlessly, impressing Bluth so much that he quickly cast her in his next feature film.
Unfortunately, Barsi would never see the success of her breakthrough performance.
Who Does Judith Barsi Play in 'The Land Before Time'?
Unfamiliar with The Land Before Time? The film is set in the age of the dinosaurs and revolves around Littlefoot (Gabriel Damon), a young Longneck, and his mother (Helen Shaver). Their peaceful existence is shattered by a devastating earthquake and a formidable Sharptooth T-Rex attack, resulting in Littlefoot's mother sacrificing herself to protect him. Before her untimely demise, she implores Littlefoot to seek safety with his grandparents in the Great Valley, a distant oasis from their current location.
On his journey to the Great Valley, Littlefoot encounters several young dinosaurs who were displaced by the earthquake. Among them are Cera, known as the "Three-Horn," Spike, the "Spike-Tail," Petrie, the "Flyer," and Ducky, the "Big-Mouth," played by Judith Barsi. Ducky is actually one of the first companions that Littlefoot meets soon after his mother's passing.
Initially, Littlefoot is dismissive of Ducky due to the usual separation between different dinosaur species. Ducky, being younger and unaware of Littlefoot's emotional pain, sees an opportunity for friendship and enthusiastically tries to form a bond with him. Ducky's unwavering positivity eventually influences Littlefoot, giving him the motivation to continue towards the Great Valley. Ultimately, thanks to Ducky's optimistic outlook, Littlefoot and his friends successfully locate the Great Valley, reunite with their families, and none of it would have been possible without Ducky's "yup yup yup" attitude.
