The Fall of the House of Usher, a Netflix miniseries created by Mike Flanagan, draws inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's iconic tales and portrays the tragic decline of a fictional family. In a chilling clip shared exclusively with We, Roderick Usher (played by Bruce Greenwood) is seen drenched in blood following the mysterious death of his fourth child. Seizing the moment, his twin sister, Madeline Usher (portrayed by Mary McDonnell), serves as a stark reminder of what is truly at risk.
"Four consecutive deaths cannot be dismissed as mere coincidence. Even without knowing the specifics, we are aware that something alarming is occurring," McDonnell's character asserts, urging Greenwood's character to confront the truth. "We are being targeted, and if that realization doesn't shake you out of your denial, just remember that Vic [T'Nia Miller] held a significant position within the company. Now, perhaps, you're willing to listen."
Madeline conveys to Roderick the urgency of their situation, emphasizing that their empire's collapse is imminent.
"Have you considered the possibility that these recurring coincidences are slowly dismantling the protective barrier we used to rely on, what you referred to as the family firewall? With each passing event, we risk losing control over the board, brick by brick. It's imperative that we locate the woman from the bar and put an end to her actions before it's too late. If we fail to do so, not only will your family be at stake, but our entire company as well."
The pep talk appears to motivate Roderick, who exclaims, "At least that's something we can work with. Finally, a task within my reach."
The CEO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company in The Fall of the House of Usher witnesses the brutal deaths of his children, which are connected to his questionable past. In an effort to go beyond the original short story by Poe, Flanagan incorporates various pieces of Poe's written work throughout the show's eight episodes.

According to an interview with The Wrap in October 2022, the actor expressed his excitement for the project, stating, "It's crazy. It is unlike anything I've ever done, but in the other direction. My favorite way to describe it to people is like [The Haunting of] Hill House is kind of a string quartet, and [The Haunting of] Bly Manor is this delicate, kind of beautiful piece of classical piano music, and The Fall of the House of Usher is heavy metal. It's rock and roll."
He exclaimed, "This is as close as I'll ever get to Giallo. It's an outrageous experience filled with vibrant colors, darkness, bloodshed, wickedness, humor, intensity, terror, and laughter. I've never had the opportunity to work on anything quite like it. We poured our hearts into it, and it's an explosively entertaining ride. I'm thrilled for it to be released because both The Midnight Club and Usher take unique and different paths, and together, they are incredibly intriguing to me."
The Fall of the House of Usher will be available for streaming on Netflix starting on Thursday, October 12.
