Test audiences are loving the upcoming action rom-com The Fall Guy, praising its fun and chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
Test screenings revealed that audiences desired a stronger emphasis on character development and the relationship aspect, while slightly toning down the action. With actor Gosling's renowned versatility and the intriguing blend of action, romance, and captivating character moments, the film has generated immense anticipation.
Test audiences have given overwhelmingly positive reactions to The Fall Guy, a campy action movie featuring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. The film, which is a mix of action and romantic comedy, follows Colt Seavers (played by Gosling), a former stuntman who comes out of retirement after a crisis of identity when a major Hollywood star goes missing. In addition to Gosling and Blunt, the talented cast includes Winston Duke, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Hannah Waddingham.
According to Collider, the initial responses from test screenings for The Fall Guy have been released. Director David Leitch and producer Kelly McCormick have expressed their delight at the audience's positive reception, stating that they loved the movie for its fun factor. Leitch specifically attributes this to the chemistry between Gosling and Blunt, with McCormick adding that the test screenings taught them the importance of showcasing more of the relationship and character development, while toning down the action in certain moments. To read the full quotes from Leitch and McCormick, see below.
LEITCH: The movie is being tested very positively and it is a crowd favorite. People really enjoy the chemistry between Ryan and Emily and they appreciate how enjoyable the film is. As Kelly mentioned, Ryan's character is like a hero from a working-class background. It's a story about an underdog who becomes a superhero and fights against the villains, while also trying to win back the love of his life. One of our cast members even said, "If you didn't enjoy this movie, you don't have a soul." [Laughs] It's a fun film that celebrates the hardworking crew members who make movies possible, and it distinguishes between movies themselves and the process of making them.
MCCORMICK: When we were heading into testing, we were concerned that people might not fully appreciate the world portrayed in the movie, thinking it was too exclusive or inside. However, they were actually very accepting of it. I think it's because David has a talent for creating realistic worlds while also selecting and presenting them in a curated manner. This movie just takes place in a different setting, but the audience was really open to the experience, which was great to see.
If anything, I suppose the lesson for us was that they desired a greater emphasis on the development of relationships and characters, and occasionally, a bit less focus on action. So we adjusted accordingly, which is interesting because there is still a significant amount of action present. They simply allocated more time for character development, but yes. However, right from the beginning, it tested exceptionally well.
Why The Fall Guy Is So Promising
Gosling's impressive versatility as an actor has greatly contributed to the overwhelming excitement surrounding the movie. His portrayal of Ken in Barbie, for instance, garnered him widespread acclaim for his exceptional performance and comedic skills. Moreover, his filmography boasts a remarkable array of action movies such as Drive, The Gray Man, and Blade Runner 2049.
The Fall Guy trailer showcased Gosling in a unique role as an unexpected action hero, reminiscent of his previous films. The trailer hinted at a romantic storyline between Blunt and Gosling, which was confirmed by recent statements from McCormick and Leitch regarding test screening reactions. Despite the film's release being five months away, there is already great anticipation. Hopefully, The Fall Guy will successfully capture the excitement of thrilling action, passionate romance, and poignant character moments when it hits theaters in the near future.

Gosling's versatility as an actor is one of his greatest strengths, and he always brings something new to each role he plays. Whether he's playing a charming romantic lead or a gritty action hero, he always manages to make the character his own. Blunt is also a talented actress with a wide range, and I'm excited to see her bring her unique brand of humor and charisma to the role.
