Sports phenomenon Breanna Stewart met her wife, Marta Xargay, while pursuing her passion for basketball. Stewart, hailing from New York, crossed paths with Xargay, who was born in Spain, while playing for the Dynamo Kursk team in Russia. Although they both joined the squad for the 2018-19 season, their initial connection was limited due to their pre-existing friendships within the team.
"Stewart jokingly mentioned to People in 2021 that she didn't talk to me. She had already been in Russia before I arrived and I was occupied with understanding the team. However, as time went on, I began to develop relationships with my teammates. I found myself increasingly interested in Marta, although still hesitant to take any action."
However, within a year, the situation transformed. After Stewart returned to the United States in 2019 to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon, she and Xargay maintained a long-distance relationship. Two years later, they got married.
Xargay retired from professional basketball in 2021, but she has remained a strong supporter of Stewart's career in the WNBA. Stewart initially achieved success as a two-time champion with the Seattle Storm and now serves as a power forward for the New York Liberty. Xargay expressed their enduring connection through an Instagram post in January 2023, accompanied by a heartwarming photo of the two of them.
