Manifest has come to an end, leaving behind possibilities for a spinoff in its final episode. The disappearance of Flight 828 and the subsequent unraveling of numerous mysteries made it a challenging task to wrap up all loose ends in the last season. While Manifest successfully provided resolutions to major storylines, it doesn't necessarily render a continuation meaningless.
Though Manifest ultimately deviated from showrunner Jeff Rake's original plan of six seasons for the series, it successfully concluded the story of the Flight 828 passengers. The show unveiled the truth behind the disappearance of Flight 828, its cause, the significance of the Callings, and most notably, the passengers' ability to prevent the Death Date. Through their actions, such as averting a volcanic catastrophe and resetting the timeline, the passengers were able to disembark from the airport in 2013 as if the entire ordeal had never occurred. This narrative direction allowed Manifest to provide a gratifying resolution for the majority of its characters.
Manifest’s Ending Teases What A Spinoff Would Entail
Interestingly, in the closing moments of the Manifest series finale, Vance made a surprising appearance at the airport. He had just discovered that there were 11 passengers who never disembarked from the plane. A deleted scene reveals Vance engaging in a heated argument with Amuta, demanding access to the cockpit. As the door opened, Captain Daly inexplicably disintegrated right before Vance's eyes. While Amuta likely understood this as a tragic consequence of a passenger's failure to meet the Death Date judgment, for Vance and everyone else present, it was an astonishing and unsettling sight. This shocking event is bound to trigger a thorough investigation by the government.
The government’s curiosity about the enigmatic circumstances surrounding the return of Flight 828 serves as a tantalizing hint at potential future narratives. While these stories are likely to unfold off-screen, there is potential for a spinoff to delve into Vance's discoveries, his interactions with certain passengers, and potentially unveil answers to the show's lingering mysteries. One such mystery revolves around the fate of Al-Zuras and his connection to the divine consciousness. Actor Josh Dallas, who portrays Ben, has voiced his support for a Manifest spinoff that focuses on Vance's investigations.
Will A Manifest Spinoff Happen?
Those involved in the series have expressed their willingness to return if Manifest’s conclusion were to lead to a spinoff or a sequel series. The potential for more stories is fueled by the setup in the series finale. If Manifest can introduce additional mysteries, it may have the foundation necessary for a successful spinoff. However, the chances of Manifest continuing are still uncertain. Netflix initially revived the show with the intention of concluding the story in one, extended season. Therefore, for the streaming service to bring it back in any form, it would require substantial viewership numbers and a significant demand for more Manifest.
