Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 8
Summary
In season 3 of The Wheel of Time, the storyline will delve into The Shadow Rising, teasing the audience with what lies ahead for the main characters. Additionally, certain aspects from The Dragon Reborn will be incorporated.
The narrative will primarily revolve around Rand al'Thor as he embarks on his expedition to the Aiel Waste and forms an alliance with the Aiel. It is possible that his journey will also introduce a romantic connection with Elayne.
Perrin Aybara's storyline will revolve around safeguarding the Two Rivers from Whitecloaks and a Trolloc invasion, potentially involving his conflicts with Dain and his eventual encounter with his future wife, Faile.
In The Wheel of Time season 3, the focus will be on the fourth novel of Robert Jordan's series, The Shadow Rising. This installment offers glimpses into the future of the main characters in the show. While The Wheel of Time may have taken some creative liberties in adapting Jordan's novels, the show has generally stayed true to the core arcs of the main characters, which means that The Shadow Rising will provide valuable insights into the future developments of the show's main cast. While there will be some deviations from the source material, the overall events in The Shadow Rising should form the basis of their storylines.
Moreover, The Wheel of Time season 2 is expected to adapt Jordan's second and third novels, with a primary focus on The Great Hunt. As a result, it is highly likely that The Wheel of Time season 3 will incorporate elements from the third novel, The Dragon Reborn. With the events that unfold between The Dragon Reborn and The Shadow Rising, there is a multitude of possibilities awaiting the main characters following the conclusion of The Wheel of Time season 2.
10 Rand al'Thor
In The Wheel of Time's season 2 finale, Rand al'Thor embarks on a journey to the Aiel Waste, aligning seamlessly with the events of The Shadow Rising. While it's probable that Rand will briefly visit Tear, a crucial setting in both The Dragon Reborn and The Shadow Rising, his narrative will primarily unfold amidst the expansive desert known as the Aiel Waste. Here, Rand's paramount objective will be to secure the support of the Aiel, who are anticipated to become his most significant allies. Additionally, the series has hinted at the inception of Rand's romantic connection with Elayne.
9 Mat Cauthon
After Mat Cauthon blows The Wheel of Time's Horn of Valere in the season 2 finale, he finds himself once again caught up in his book arc. This makes it easier to predict the direction of his journey moving forward. In The Dragon Reborn, Mat accompanies Rand to Tear, where they join forces to repel the Black Ajah and conquer the city in the name of the Dragon. However, it is likely that most of this storyline will be omitted, and Mat will instead dive straight into his Shadow Rising arc. In this installment, Mat embarks on a journey with Rand to the Aiel Waste, where he gains entry into the revered city of Rhuidean and acquires an ashandarei, a power-wrought spear.
8 Perrin Aybara
Similar to Mat, Perrin accompanies Rand to Tear in The Dragon Reborn. However, if this particular storyline is omitted from the show, Perrin should directly dive into the events of The Shadow Rising. This installment showcases Perrin's return to the Two Rivers to safeguard it from the combined threat of vengeful Whitecloaks, led by Dain Bornhald, and a Trolloc army aiming to invade the Dragon's homeland. Given that Perrin eliminated Geofram Bornhald in The Wheel of Time season 2 finale, it seems increasingly likely that his conflict with Dain will take center stage in Perrin's season 3 story arc. Additionally, Perrin should also encounter his future wife, Faile, during this season.
7 Nynaeve al'Meara
After The Great Hunt, Nynaeve al'Meara comes back to the White Tower where she, along with Egwene and Elayne, is assigned the mission of locating the Black Ajah. In The Dragon Reborn, their pursuit takes them to the Stone of Tear, and subsequently, Nynaeve and Elayne trace the Black Ajah's trail to the city of Tanchico. The majority of Nynaeve's storyline in The Shadow Rising unfolds in Tanchico, where her search for the Black Ajah brings her face-to-face with Moghedien. Nynaeve manages to temporarily overcome the Forsaken, but an arrival of a member of the Black Ajah distracts her, allowing Moghedien to evade capture.
6 Egwene al'Vere
Following the events in Falme at the conclusion of The Great Hunt, Egwene travels with Elayne and Nynaeve to Tear. However, she eventually separates from them during The Shadow Rising and joins Rand on his journey to the Aiel Waste. It is there that she becomes an apprentice of the Aiel Wise Ones and gains the ability to Dreamwalk. As The Wheel of Time season 3 unfolds, there is a possibility that the show will skip ahead to Egwene's venture to the Aiel Waste and her training with the Wise Ones. Alternatively, there is a chance that she may spend some time in the White Tower or wherever Nynaeve and Elayne's path leads them, depending on how much of The Dragon Reborn is incorporated into The Wheel of Time season 3.
5 Elayne Trakand
The main focus of Elayne's storyline in season 3 of the Wheel of Time is expected to be her pursuit of the Black Ajah in Tanchico alongside Nynaeve. It is likely that they will briefly return to the White Tower and receive the assignment to hunt the Black Ajah. However, due to the uncertainty surrounding Siuan Sanche's fate in season 2, they may choose to bypass this and dive straight into their mission. Additionally, it is highly probable that Elayne's connection with Rand will begin to develop in some way during this season, even if it is just establishing the groundwork for a future romance between them.
4 Moiraine Damodred
Moiraine accompanies Rand into the Aiel Waste in The Shadow Rising. This suggests that her Wheel of Time season 3 storyline might revolve around their journey. Given her previous activities, she may continue her quest for knowledge about the prophecies of the Dragon. As the Aiel also have their own prophecies about the Dragon, it's possible that much of this season will be spent connecting these two versions. Furthermore, season 3 could include the portion of The Shadow Rising where Moiraine ventures into the sacred city of Rhuidean and experiences significant visions from the past.
3 Lan Mandragoran
At this point in The Wheel of Time book series, Lan continues to accompany Moiraine wherever she goes. This implies that he will most likely join the journey to the Aiel Waste in The Wheel of Time season 3. During their journey in the books, Lan and Rand spend some time practicing sword forms together. However, since the show skipped their training scenes from The Great Hunt, it is expected that Lan will teach Rand some sword skills during season 3. Additionally, there will likely be a brief interaction between Lan and Nynaeve, as both characters are in Falme at the end of The Wheel of Time season 2.
2 Liandrin Guirale
Liandrin and her fellow Black Ajah members embark on a journey to Tanchico in search of the domination band, an a'dam specifically created for men. Nynaeve and Elayne follow their trail, resulting in a race between the two groups to obtain the domination band first. In The Wheel of Time season 3, Liandrin's storyline is expected to focus on her time in Tanchico. However, there is a possibility that her narrative will intertwine with Elaida, another Aes Sedai. If this turns out to be true, Liandrin's arc in season 3 will showcase her overthrowing Siuan Sanche and assuming the role of the Amyrlin Seat.
1 Loial
Loial is well-positioned to accompany Perrin to the Two Rivers in season 3 of The Wheel of Time, just as he does in The Shadow Rising. His presence in Emond's Field proves invaluable in defending against Trolloc assaults and maintaining a peaceful relationship with the Whitecloaks. Loial's involvement in battling the Trollocs showcases the formidable nature of Ogier when confronted with danger. While the possibility exists for The Wheel of Time to have Loial join Rand in the Waste, adhering to the book's storyline would have him remain by Perrin's side in the Two Rivers.
