The Evolution of Fifth Harmony's Former Members: Solo Ventures, Reality TV, Love Lives, and Beyond

Just like a popular boy band from the 2010s, Fifth Harmony also came together on a reality competition show. Since their hiatus, they have been keeping themselves busy with various projects. The group was formed in 2012 when all five members - Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui - auditioned as solo contestants for the U.S. edition of The X Factor. Although they did not advance as solo artists, judges Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid, and Britney Spears saw potential in them and brought them together to form a girl group.

Initially named Lylas and then 1432, the group eventually settled on the name Fifth Harmony after a public vote. After finishing in third place during the December 2012 season finale, they were signed by Cowell to his record label, Syco Music, just one month later.

Their debut album, Reflection, was released in January 2015, propelling them into stardom in the pop music scene. However, drama ensued the following year when Cabello announced her departure from the group in December 2016.

The other four members were surprised by her decision and later announced in March 2018 that Fifth Harmony would take a break while they focused on their individual projects. Despite disappointing fans, the women followed through on their plans, and all four have since released their own singles.

In 2012, Fifth Harmony's journey began when Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui auditioned as solo contestants for the U.S. edition of The X Factor. Normani

Originally from Georgia, the artist launched her initial solo track, "Love Lies," featuring Khalid, in 2018. The subsequent year, she introduced "Motivation," and in 2020, she teamed up with Megan Thee Stallion for the Birds of Prey soundtrack. In 2021, she collaborated with Cardi B on "Wild Side," which they performed at the MTV VMAs. The release date for her first solo album has not yet been revealed.

Normani participated in the 2017 season of Dancing With the Stars, ultimately placing third. Additionally, she has served as a panelist on RuPaul's Drag Race, Legendary, and That's My Jam, and has walked the runway in multiple editions of Rihanna's Savage X Fenty fashion shows.

Ally Brooke

Brooke debuted as a solo artist in 2018 with the single "Perfect" featuring Topic. She has announced that her first album, Mi Música, will be exclusively recorded in Spanish. The "Tequila" singer competed on season 28 of DWTS in 2019, ultimately finishing in third place. In October 2020, she published a memoir titled "Finding Your Harmony."

In December 2023, Brooke revealed her engagement to boyfriend Will Bracey.

Dinah Jane

Following the release of the singles "Boom Boom" and "Bottled Up" in 2017 and 2018, the artist from California dropped her first EP, Dinah Jane 1, in April 2019. Although she had plans for her inaugural solo headlining tour in 2020, it was unfortunately canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The talented singer, known for her hit song "Missed a Spot," has also made appearances on Wild 'n Out and starred in the Netflix film The After Party.

Lauren Jauregui

Prior to Fifth Harmony's hiatus, Jauregui teamed up with Halsey for the song "Strangers." Following this, the singer from Miami released solo tracks "Expectations" and "More Than That." Similar to Normani, she also contributed to the Birds of Prey soundtrack with the song "Invisible Chains." Jauregui's first EP, Prelude, was released in November 2021. In the same year, she made an appearance in the HBO series A Tiny Audience.

Camila Cabello

Since parting ways with Fifth Harmony in 2016, Cabello has dropped three solo albums: Camila in 2018, Romance in 2019, and Familia in 2022. Following her opening act for Taylor Swift on the Reputation tour in 2018, the "Havana" singer embarked on her inaugural solo headlining tour later that year. She has also earned three Grammy nominations and clinched four VMAs, including for her collaboration with Shawn Mendes on "Señorita." In 2021, she took on the lead role in Amazon's adaptation of Cinderella, which featured Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, and Pierce Brosnan.

Cabello and Mendes, who had been friends for years, started dating in 2019. They announced their breakup in November 2021, briefly reconciled in early 2023, but ultimately ended their relationship in June of that year.
