The Epic Unseen Asajj Ventress Storyline That Could Have Rescued Star Wars' Most Disappointing TV Show

The character of Ventress had the potential to seamlessly integrate into the storyline of Star Wars Resistance. However, the creative team made the decision not to include her, possibly in order to prevent her from overshadowing other characters. While the show ultimately replaced her with another character, the creators of Star Wars Resistance have revealed information regarding the role Ventress would have played. Including her would have presented an intriguing chance to further develop Ventress as a character and enhance the impact of Star Wars Resistance within the franchise.

While not a terrible show, Star Wars Resistance has received considerably less attention compared to other Star Wars animated projects. This is partly because Star Wars Resistance is mostly unrelated to the preceding shows, whereas the live-action TV series are heavily connected to the 3D animated series. The inclusion of Ventress could have helped resolve this issue, but the creative team ultimately opted against it.

How Asajj Ventress Would Have Fit Into Star Wars Resistance

According to Star Wars Resistance head writer and executive producer Brandon Auman, another character on the show was originally going to be Asajj Ventress.

Mika Grey, originally intended to be an older version of Asajj Ventress, was a character introduced in Star Wars Resistance season 2. She played the role of an archaeologist who embarked on a mission to outpace First Order stormtroopers in their pursuit of Sith relics across the galaxy. At one point, Mika found herself trapped in a chamber for two days before being rescued by Kazuda Xiono, a spy for the Resistance. Eventually, Mika settled on the Colossus and assumed the role of a fortune-teller. While this storyline would have aligned well with Ventress, considering her animosity towards the Sith following her betrayal by Count Dooku, it would have contradicted the established canon ending of her character.

In the unproduced eight-episode arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, there came a moment when Ventress, valiantly defending Jedi Master Quinlan Vos from Dooku, met her demise. Her lifeless body was laid to rest on the planet Dathomir. This gripping tale was later transformed into the canon novel Star Wars: Dark Disciple by the talented Christie Golden, which hit the shelves three years before the premiere of Star Wars: Resistance. However, taking into consideration the Nightsisters' proficiency in magic and their ability to revive deceased beings, it is plausible that this element would have been utilized to unveil Ventress' miraculous survival. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Ventress cleverly evaded actual death by ascending into a Sith trance and abandoning her previous existence.

The Abandoned Asajj Ventress Arc Would Have Improved Star Wars Resistance

Auman states that Dave Filoni believed fans would perceive Ventress as the main focus of the show and he wanted to ensure that the other characters received their fair share of attention. However, it is worth noting that Ventress would not have made an appearance until season 2, allowing ample time for the characters to establish themselves beforehand. Additionally, an epic lightsaber duel between Kylo Ren and Asajj Ventress would have undoubtedly been a remarkable moment in the Star Wars franchise. With her inclusion, Star Wars Resistance would have left a more significant cultural impact, but sadly, it seems to have been largely forgotten now.
