Highlights
Nami's introduction is different in the live-action series, as she is introduced in the Romance Dawn arc instead of the Orange Town arc.
Mohji's importance in the live-action series is greatly reduced, resulting in the elimination of his entire role, including his confrontation with Luffy. In a similar manner, Richie, the beloved pet lion of Mohji, is completely excluded from the live-action adaptation, despite playing a significant role in the manga as an integral part of Buggy's quest to recover his missing body.
Netflix's release of the One Piece Live Action series has been met with great acclaim from fans. The series has been incredibly successful, largely due to its adherence to the source material, which was expected given Oda's important role in the project.
However, it should be noted that the One Piece Live Action series does make certain adjustments to each arc in order to enhance its suitability for a live-action adaptation. This is also true for the Orange Town arc, where viewers are introduced to the character of Buggy.
10 Nami's Introduction
The introduction of Nami in the Orange Town Arc shows one of the major contrasts between the original manga and the live-action adaptation of One Piece.
While Nami is first introduced to fans in this arc in the manga, the live-action series takes a different approach. Nami is introduced in the Romance Dawn arc and later joins the Straw Hat Pirates on their journey to Orange Town.
9 Mohji's Role
Mohji plays a crucial role in the Orange Town arc as the First Mate of the Buggy Pirates. Surprisingly, the live-action series did not give him much screen time or significance.
Although Mohji does make an appearance in the arc, his role was completely eliminated. In the manga, he engages in a fierce battle with Luffy but ultimately suffers a severe defeat.
8 Richie's Absence
In the One Piece Live Action series, Mohji's role gets reduced, while Richie, his combat companion, is completely eliminated. Richie, a pet lion, plays a crucial role in assisting Mohji during fights and is especially significant in the cover story where Buggy searches for his missing body.
7 The Map Of The Grand Line
In the One Piece Live Action series, Luffy starts off with the map of the Grand Line. He decides to swallow it to prevent Buggy from obtaining it.
Contrary to the original series, Buggy originally possesses the map of the Grand Line. However, Nami cunningly snatches it from him. She then manipulates the situation by framing Luffy, gaining Buggy's confidence, and ultimately obtaining his treasure.
6 Cabaji's Connection To Zoro
In the live-action series of One Piece, an intriguing alteration was introduced, which involved the addition of an older brother for Cabaji.
Unfortunately, Cabaji's older brother meets a tragic fate at the hands of Zoro, the bounty hunter. If Cabaji is to be believed, Zoro decapitates his brother and preserves the head in a bag as proof for claiming the bounty. It's worth mentioning that this sibling does not exist in the original series.
5 Buggy's Role
In the Orange Town arc of One Piece, Buggy serves as the primary antagonist. However, there are notable differences between his portrayal in the live-action adaptation and the original manga version.
In the live-action series, Buggy puts up a significantly stronger fight against Luffy and even goes as far as trying to drown him. His remarkable performance has garnered immense praise from fans, who have developed a deep admiration for his character.
4 Shanks And Buggy's Flashback
The flashback of Shanks and Buggy aboard the Oro Jackson surprisingly did not feature in the One Piece Live Action series. Although Buggy mentions their bond, viewers were not shown the incident where Shanks accidentally makes Buggy consume the Bara Bara no Mi. In the live action, Buggy does not harbor any resentment towards Shanks for this.
3 Citizens Of Orange Town
In the live-action series, the citizens of Orange Town have a contrasting role compared to the manga. Instead of abandoning the town due to the havoc created by the Buggy Pirates, they are captured by Buggy and held captive in his clown carnival. Here, Buggy compels them to applaud and laugh at his antics, adding a maniacal aspect to his character.
2 Boodle
Boodle, the mayor of Orange Town, holds great importance in the manga arc. He is credited with the inception of Orange Town, which he initiated approximately four decades ago. Additionally, Boodle harbors a strong desire to confront Buggy directly in the manga.
Conversely, in the live-action series, Boodle is among the captives gathered by Buggy and only plays a brief role towards the conclusion.
1 Chouchou
Chouchou, a cherished dog, is adored by every fan of One Piece. This beloved canine makes its debut in the Orange Town arc, where it becomes evident that Chouchou has patiently waited outside the pet shop for its owner for an extended period.
The entire tale of Chouchou unfolds before the fans, and its precious treasure, the pet shop where it resided with its owner, holds paramount importance and serves as a contrasting element to Luffy's treasure. Regrettably, despite making an appearance in the live-action adaptation of One Piece, Chouchou experiences a minimal presence in the storyline.
One Piece Live Action is available to watch on Netflix.
