The Third Great Ninja War In The Manga
The Third Great Ninja War was a significant event in the original manga, but Kishimoto did not give it much attention since it occurred over a decade before the story's start. Unlike the detailed portrayal of the Fourth Great Ninja War, fans only caught glimpses of the Third through flashbacks, backstories, and the accounts of other characters. The war was prompted by a decrease in the power of the five nations.
Initial border skirmishes escalated into larger battles and eventually developed into full-scale wars. With the decline in power, the Five Nations lacked the necessary resources and manpower to sustain the conflict. As a result, even Academy graduates and young children were sent to the battlefield, leading to a significant loss of lives. Fans were able to witness several clashes during the Third Great Ninja War in the manga, including Minato's fight against Ay and the confrontation between Team Minato and the Iwagakure Shinobi, from which Kakashi of the Sharingan emerged.

Fans were first introduced to him through Kakashi's flashback, which depicted the birth of Kakashi's legendary Sharingan. At that time, Kakashi was already a skilled Jonin under Minato's command. However, the mission proved to be incredibly challenging from the outset.
A New Fight In The Minato One Shot
Leading Team Minato, Kakashi encountered a tragic outcome when Rin was kidnapped and Obito presumably lost his life. However, Minato later showcased his extraordinary prowess by single-handedly defeating an entire battalion of Shinobi, completely turning the tides of the war in Konoha's favor. Additionally, the successful destruction of Kannabi Bridge further solidified his status. As word spread of Minato's incredible feats, an order was issued for a retreat upon sighting him, striking fear into the hearts of every Iwagakure Shinobi. Remarkably, this pivotal point in the war actually occurred much later, revealing events that took place prior to Minato assuming leadership of his own team. Fans express their deep gratitude for the opportunity to witness these significant moments through the iconic Minato one shot.
Set during the onset of the third Great Ninja War, the Minato one-shot features a young Minato Namikaze as a member of Team Jiraiya. Accompanied by his two comrades, the trio finds themselves thrust into the heart of battle against formidable Iwagakure Shinobi.
Minato found himself on the front lines in a clash against two familiar Jinchuriki characters from the original manga: Roshi and Han. Roshi was known as the Jinchuriki of the Four Tails, Son Goku, while Han held the power of the Five Tails, Kukuo. Both of them fought with great determination during the encounter with Minato.
To the surprise of fans, Roshi and Han gained the upper hand in the battle, causing Team Jiraiya to retreat. Despite having Jiraiya and Minato on their side, they were forced to withdraw from the fight against the two Jinchuriki. It should be noted that Minato had not yet reached his full potential at this point.
However, fans were treated to a display of Roshi and Han using their Tailed Beasts' power to the fullest extent. They were able to almost perfectly transform into their Tailed Beasts, creating chakra avatars around themselves. Additionally, they were capable of using powerful attacks such as Tailed Beast Balls, indicating a level of control over their respective beasts.
Minato and his group managed to escape the battle thanks to the Flying Thunder God Jutsu, utilizing it to retreat from the overwhelming force of Roshi, Han, and their Tailed Beasts.
The Result Of The Fight
The Minato one-shot depicts Team Jiraiya's retreat during their battle against the Iwagakure Jinchuriki duo. Subsequently, the group is sent back to Konoha to report on the events, and a majority of the story takes place there. While Minato and his team retreated, he had the opportunity to witness a Tailed Beast Ball, from which he derived a new jutsu. During his training with Jiraiya, Minato focused on perfecting this technique, which he successfully accomplished.
In a conversation with Kushina, Minato informed her that he had created this jutsu specifically for her, as a means of self-defense in the event of Jinchuriki Warfare. Thanks to his clash with the Iwagakure Jinchuriki, Minato was able to create the now well-known technique called the Rasengan, a name coined by Kushina. The one-shot also showcased Minato employing the Rasengan against the Tailed Beast Kurama, with assistance from Kushina within her own body. The power of the Rasengan was truly demonstrated when it successfully halted a Tailed Beast Ball, establishing it as a legendary technique. Jiraiya later learned this technique from Minato and passed it on to their son as a tribute to his parents.
