Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Has Questioned If Ed Can Continue His Pirate Life
In season 2 of "Our Flag Means Death," Ed fully embraces his Blackbeard persona once again after thinking Stede had abandoned him. This leads to him becoming violent and unpredictable towards The Revenge crew. Ed's behavior pushes them to a breaking point where even Izzy Hands, who had betrayed Stede and Ed to coax their return to piracy, is forced to point a gun at Ed in order to ensure everyone's survival. If Stede hadn't found The Revenge and brought Ed back, it's likely that Ed would have lost his life due to his recklessness.
Following his downfall and subsequent rehabilitation by the crew, Ed seems to have moved on from his Blackbeard identity. However, Stede has finally achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a legendary pirate, which once again strains their relationship. Leaving piracy behind has always been Ed's goal since his debut in "Our Flag Means Death," but the season 2 finale raises the question of whether Ed values his dream more than the newfound family he has found.
