The most recent episode of Mushoku Tensei explores two separate narratives that revolve around the themes of love and romance. In the first half, we delve into the journey of Rudeus's classmate, Cliff Grimoire, who unexpectedly falls head over heels for an unlikely partner. As autumn arrives, signaling the start of intense rivalry among beastfolk males and females, Rudeus finds himself unwittingly entangled in this complex situation.
With this episode, Rudeus has finally acquainted himself with each of the students in his classroom, although he still has yet to meet everyone in his class. Despite having been at University for several episodes, Rudeus has taken considerable time to truly familiarize himself with his fellow classmates. While these characters may still be unfamiliar, they will play a significant role in Rudeus's life, making it paramount to establish connections with them.
A Classmate's Love
Rudeus has completely adapted to his classroom dynamic, forming closer friendships not only with Zanoba, but also with the rowdy duo of Linia and Pursena, who admire Rudeus's leadership skills. The only classmate left for Rudeus to truly connect with is the brilliant student, Cliff Grimoire, who finds the mischievous behavior of his peers to be intolerable. Cliff's life takes a sudden twist when he catches sight of a stunning woman from his dorm room window and instantly falls head over heels in love with her.
Cliff's Passion
The following day, Rudeus stumbles upon a cluster of students assaulting an individual. Swiftly, he drives them away and is taken aback to learn that the person he rescued is none other than Cliff. Although slightly vexed by Rudeus' intervention, Cliff begrudgingly expresses his gratitude. Later on, Cliff approaches Rudeus and confesses his interest in a girl, who happens to be Elinalise. It turns out that Cliff initiated the confrontation with the aforementioned students due to the spread of rumors about Elinalise's promiscuity, oblivious to their veracity. Consequently, Cliff requests Rudeus to facilitate their introduction, given their acquaintanceship.Unsure of what to do, Rudeus seeks advice from Fitz regarding whether or not Cliff should meet Elinalise. Rudeus has a strong conviction that uncovering Elinalise's true nature will only shatter Cliff's heart. Fitz acknowledges Rudeus' concerns but advises him to allow Cliff to express his feelings to Elinalise nonetheless. Realizing the validity of Fitz's argument, Rudeus eventually agrees and arranges for Cliff to meet Elinalise. Upon meeting her, Cliff confesses his deep emotions fervently, which prompts Elinalise to pull Rudeus aside and reprimand him for bringing an innocent boy into her life. However, when Elinalise realizes that Cliff's feelings are genuine, she explains to Rudeus that due to her curse, she is incapable of committing to one person. Without hesitation, Rudeus urges Elinalise to reject Cliff if that is the case. Understanding his perspective, Elinalise agrees, and Rudeus graciously gives the two of them some privacy as he departs.
The next day, Rudeus is taken aback to witness Cliff and Elinalise engrossed in each other in the classroom. Elinalise clarifies that despite informing him about the curse and attempting to reject him, Cliff's proposal had such intensity that it managed to sway her heart. When Rudeus inquires about her plans concerning the curse, Elinalise pledges to withstand it for Cliff, whereas Cliff vows to eventually break the spell that afflicts Elinalise. The two seal their fiery passion with a kiss while their fellow classmates watch disapprovingly.
A Duel Of Passions
With the arrival of autumn, Cliff and Elinalise are not the only ones in search of love. The male and female beastfolk have commenced a tradition of challenging each other to duels in hopes of finding a partner. Linia and Pursena, overwhelmed by the sheer number of potential suitors, have chosen to remain secluded in their dormitories for the time being. They have sent a message of good luck to Rudeus, but he initially fails to comprehend its significance. It is only when a beastman, vying for Pursena's affection, challenges Rudeus to a duel that he realizes the girls have made him the target (and thus the deterrent) for their numerous suitors.
As Rudeus seeks refuge in the library, a queue of challengers patiently await his emergence. However, upon finally stepping outside, he discovers that they have all been defeated by a formidable six-armed man who goes by the name Demon King Badigadi. Badigadi, who is engaged to Kishirika Kishirisu, the demon responsible for granting Rudeus the Eye of Foresight, challenges Rudeus primarily out of curiosity regarding his immense mana reserves. While waiting for Fitz to retrieve his staff, Rudeus seizes the opportunity to inquire about the Man-God from Badigadi, who claims to have no knowledge of him.
Shortly after, Fitz returns with Rudeus's staff and advises him not to feel ashamed if he chooses to flee due to the overwhelming power of the Demon King. Rudeus expresses his own concerns and pleads with Badigadi to spare his life. At first, Badigadi brushes off his caution, but the situation changes when Rudeus mentions his near-death experience at the hands of the Dragon God Orsted. Intrigued, Badigadi proposes a challenge: Rudeus must strike him with his most powerful attack and if he manages to inflict any injury, Rudeus will be declared the winner. Prepared, Rudeus summons a colossal Stone Cannon and unleashes it upon Badigadi, obliterating him. Despite believing that he has killed his opponent, Rudeus soon realizes that Badigadi has revived himself and concedes defeat before rendering Rudeus unconscious with his own attack.
After the day ends, Rudeus finds solace in knowing that he won't have to encounter Badigadi anymore and assumes that he will never have to see him again. But to his surprise, this assumption proves to be incorrect when Badigadi suddenly makes an appearance in their classroom, wearing the school uniform and unleashing his distinctive laughter.
