Sihtric

First introduced as a member of Tekil's group of men assigned to ambush Uhtred, Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravičius) was spared and managed to engage in a conversation with Uhtred by utilizing his combat skills effectively. In this conversation, Sihtric reveals that he is the illegitimate son of Kjartan, the individual responsible for the murder of Uhtred's adoptive family. Disapproving of the brutality of his own outcast family, Sihtric pledges his loyalty to Uhtred and consistently proves his dedication not only to Uhtred but also to Uhtred's future wife, Gisela (Peri Baumeister).

Among Uhtred's three trusted companions, Sihtric is known for his reserved nature. While others express their opinions vocally, Sihtric prefers silence. Although his silence often subjects him to jests from the group, his fierce fighting abilities, agility, and loyal actions effectively speak for themselves. Recognizing his unique skill set and ability to blend in, Sihtric is frequently assigned tasks such as scouting and infiltrating, making him one of Uhtred's most valuable allies.

Finan

Sihtric doesn't receive much attention in the Netflix series, leaving little known about his past. In season 2, viewers are introduced to Finan as a slave aboard Sverri's boat, where Uhtred and Halig are also prisoners. Despite the cruel and harsh conditions endured as slaves, Finan witnesses Uhtred's unwavering bravery and determination to fight for justice. Together, they devise numerous escape plans, each resulting in severe consequences. However, Finan's admiration for Uhtred remains steady, and he constantly strives to protect him from the threat of death.

Once freed from slavery, Finan remains steadfastly loyal to Uhtred, offering assistance in battles against both Saxons and Danes. As a trusted friend and advisor, Finan fearlessly provides Uhtred with candid advice that others may shy away from. Nevertheless, his guidance always stems from a genuine place of support. In the concluding season of The Last Kingdom, Finan aids Uhtred in reclaiming his ancestral home, Bebbanburg. He later reappears in the movie, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die.

Osferth

In the latter part of season 2, viewers are introduced to Osferth (Ewan Mitchell). While Athelwold (Harry McEntire) continues his efforts to undermine King Alfred (David Dawson) and gather support for his cause, Osferth seeks out Uhtred and his men, expressing his desire to join them. As the nephew of Uhtred's late friend Leofric and Alfred's illegitimate son, Uhtred permits Osferth's entry, although the transition is not without its challenges. As a Christian monk, Osferth grapples with the brutality of war and the instinctual nature required to become a warrior. However, his innocence provides light-hearted moments for Uhtred, Sihtric, Finan, and the audience.

Although Osferth may lack combat skills, he compensates in other ways. Frequently used as bait, Osferth finds enjoyment in his role, engaging in witty banter with those Uhtred is about to confront. He does acquire some fighting abilities from Uhtred, Sihtric, and Finan, but he prioritizes using his energy to tend to their wounds and lift their spirits through lighthearted exchanges. As a member of Uhtred's camp, Osferth develops a level of confidence that would have been unimaginable during his time in the monastery.

Throughout the series, Uhtred's camp gradually expands to include individuals like Sihtric, Finan, and Osferth. However, the bond between these four men surpasses any other pairing. They often find solace in one another during their lowest moments, and together they reclaim their own sense of self. This unique bond between each of them cannot be replicated, not even among themselves. While they encounter friends, enemies, lovers, and wives along their journey, The Last Kingdom emphasizes the strong camaraderie between these four men to convey the importance of chosen family. Initially brought together by their loyalty to and belief in Uhtred, Sihtric, Finan, and Osferth become interdependent on one another, forming an enduring brotherhood that remains until the end of their individual quests.
