What are the Books of Zeref?
The Books of Zeref encompass numerous volumes, forming a comprehensive compilation of Zeref's extensive research on the dark arts. Among the notorious manifestations originating from these volumes are the Etherious demons, the Eclipse Gate, and the black magic spells employed by Zeref's creations. While the appearance of these books remains shrouded in mystery, limited glimpses display the book containing E.N.D. with Zeref's name boldly etched across its cover, which appears weathered with a few tattered edges.
Furthermore, these books share an inseparable bond with their corresponding demons, meaning any harm inflicted upon one will directly affect the other. Since Zeref is the progenitor of both these books and the demons sealed within them, their very existence is interconnected. Contents of the Books of Zeref
The Books of Zeref contain passages written in Demonic Scripture, making it impossible for mere mortals to modify their contents. Those brave enough to attempt a rewrite will subject themselves to intense bodily overheating, accompanied by excruciating agony.
The Books of Zeref hold within them the secrets to some of Zeref's most powerful spells. These demons, known as Etherious, are created using Ethernano, granting them their otherworldly existence. The members of the sinister Tartaros guild were all beings of Etherious origin, having been brought to life through the influence of the Books of Zeref.

Why Did Zeref Create These Books?

Zeref initially made these books to bring back his deceased brother, driven by his deep emotions for him. After his family was killed by Dragons, Zeref delved into forbidden arts in search of a way to revive his brother.
Unfortunately, he was cursed by Ankhseram with immortality, known as the Curse of Contradiction. This curse also caused the death of any living being that came near Zeref, forcing him to live alone for eternity. The Etherious demons were created out of Zeref's longing for death, but none of them possessed the strength to kill him.
The demons he had created, along with the dark magic spells, were recorded in books known as the Demonic Scripture. These books, now called 'the Books of Zeref', ended up in the possession of individuals with malevolent intentions. As a result, they became the source of death and despair for numerous individuals.
