The Enigmatic Celestial Toymaker Causes Chaos in Latest 'Doctor Who' Anniversary Specials Teaser

Donna Noble's long-awaited return in the 'Doctor Who' anniversary specials trailer raises excitement, while the celestial toymaker and mischievous Beep the Meep add an extra layer of chaos to the mix

The premiere date for the return of Doctor Who has finally been announced, and it's going to be an exciting event. Today, the BBC revealed that the first of three specials honoring the show's sixtieth anniversary will air on November 25. Two more specials will follow in the subsequent weeks, and to commemorate the occasion, a new trailer has been released.

Although most of the footage in the trailer is familiar, without any spoilers, the new teaser offers a closer look at Neil Patrick Harris's portrayal of the Celestial Toymaker. This character is a formidable adversary from The Doctor's long list of enemies and has not appeared on screen since the show's inception in 1963. Originally portrayed by Michael Gough, the Celestial Toymaker has clashed not only with the First Doctor, played by William Hartnell, but also with the Eighth Doctor, portrayed by Paul McGann in the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip. The Toymaker employs a simple yet sinister strategy of subjecting the Doctor and his companions to deadly games in order to challenge their very souls.

The Return of Donna Noble

In the upcoming 60th anniversary specials, Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble, one of the revival series' most beloved companions, will be making a highly anticipated return. Last time we encountered her, the Doctor was forced to erase her memory for her protection. However, she is now unexpectedly recalling memories that she shouldn't, leading to complications for both her and the Fourteenth Doctor (played by David Tennant), who is still trying to unravel the mystery behind his decision to adopt a face he has already possessed.

Joining the cast for the specials is Yasmine Finney portraying Rose, Donna's daughter. The iconic monster, the Meep, will be voiced by Miriam Margolyes. Ruth Madeley takes on the role of Shriley Anne Bingham, while Jacqueline King stars as Donna's mother. Shaun Temple is played by Karl Collins, and Jemma Redgrave appears as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart. These specials mark a fresh era for the show, led by the returning showrunner Russell T. Davies.
