Is there an Agatha: Darkhold Diaries release date?

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries' release has been postponed to Halloween 2024, placing it just past the midway point of the MCU's Phase Five between Ironheart and Daredevil: Born Again. Despite the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the premiere of Darkhold Diaries is still on track for 2024, according to Variety.

The series will now be called Agatha Darkhold Diaries instead of its previous Coven of Chaos and House of Harkness titles.

We also know that the show is set to have nine episodes in total.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Patti LuPone, the star of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, confirmed that the episode count is set at nine, and revealed that "all nine scripts" for the show were completed prior to filming.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries cast: Who’s in it, and are there any new characters?

Kathryn Hahn is set to reprise her role as the main witch in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Joining her will be Emma Caulfield from the Wandavision cast, known for her dual portrayal of Sarah Proctor and Dottie Jones, the influential figures within Westview.

breaking news from Patti LuPone as she announces her upcoming MCU debut as the witch Lilia Calderu in April 2023! Catch her revealing all the details on The View. #MCU #PattiLuPone #LiliaCalderu ✨🔮

"I portray Lilia Calderu, a character in the Marvel world, who is part of a coven of witches. I was surprised to learn about the presence of witches in the Marvel world, but upon researching Lilia, I discovered that she is a very attractive and remarkable character. The other members of the coven include Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and Joe Locke, who is also known for his role in Heartstopper. There have been rumors suggesting that Locke's character may be an alternate version of Wanda's son Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan."

Aubrey Plaza's debut in the MCU was announced by Variety in November of last year. Plaza's character, Rio Vidal, is an original addition to the MCU. According to rumors, Vidal will be portrayed as a "green witch" and will have a connection to Agatha as her former partner.

This marks Plaza’s debut in a major comic book venture. The actress, famous for her portrayal of April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation, is well-regarded for her dry, comedic timing. Her inclusion also reunites her with Hahn, both of whom previously collaborated on Parks and Recreation.

Saturday Night Live star Sasheer Zamata has also joined the cast as Sorceress Jennifer Kale.

In addition to these new additions, Deadline confirmed that Debra Jo Rupp, who played Mrs. Hart in WandaVision, would also appear in Darkhold Diaries

Are there plot details on Agatha: Darkhold Diaries?

Currently, there are no details available about Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Previously known as Agatha: House of Harkness, the show is said to provide more insight into the character introduced in WandaVision. Jac Schaefer, the head writer and executive producer of WandaVision, is also returning for Agatha: House of Harkness. It is recommended to keep all dogs named Sparky out of sight.

No other plot details have been confirmed at this time. In WandaVision, she was revealed to be the source of Wanda’s anguish and the controller of her realities in Westview, drawn to her high level of power and wishing to take it for herself. The last time we saw her, she was condemned to live the rest of her life imprisoned in her own body as nosy neighbor Agnes, so it’s likely we’ll catch up with her efforts to break free.

Based on a report from The Illuminerdi, Darkhold Diaries will continue where WandaVision left off and will be set in Westview. Agatha will be released from Wanda's spell by a new Coven of Witches, including one potentially played by Aubrey Plaza. Fans are anticipating the musical aspects of Agatha's character, especially after the success of "Agatha All Along" from WandaVision. It seems that Darkhold Diaries will also incorporate music, with Hahn hinting at the possibility of new songs being featured in the show.

Also, there are set to be references to other Disney properties within the story, such as The Princess Diaries, according to the below set photos:

Will Scarlet Witch be in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries?

The inclusion of Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch in the series remains one of the biggest mysteries. During a recent interview with Deadline, Olsen was pressed to provide a hint about her potential return to the MCU. Her response was, “I don’t know ever how to answer these questions except, I think I’ll be back.”

There isn't much information available, but considering the secretive nature of the MCU when it comes to upcoming projects, it's no surprise that Olsen isn't willing to reveal anything. Rest assured, we will keep you informed if there are any developments or official announcements regarding Olsen's future in the MCU.

Marvel is yet to confirm if these plot details are in fact true so keep checking back here for any updates on what to expect from the plot of the show.

Editor's P/S

As a hard fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I am thrilled about the upcoming release of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. The character of Agatha Harkness, played by the talented Kathryn Hahn, was a standout in the WandaVision series, and I am excited to see her take center stage in her own show. The premise of the series, which will explore Agatha's history and the history of witchcraft in the MCU, has me intrigued, and I can't wait to see what secrets and surprises the show has in store.

The casting of Emma Caulfield, Aubrey Plaza, and Sasheer Zamata as witches in the series is also exciting, and I am eager to see how their characters interact with Agatha. The addition of Patti LuPone as the witch Lilia Calderu is also a great choice, and I am sure she will bring a lot of depth and gravitas to the role. Overall, I am very optimistic about Agatha: Darkhold Diaries and can't wait to see what it has to offer.
