What happened in The Eminence in the Shadow Season 2 Episode 9?
Hailed on Reddit as “the best episode yet”, this week’s instalment returned us to the events of the light novel and Oriana kingdom.
Marie makes a stunning comeback in this episode, thriving after leaving Lawless City to start her own tavern.
The introduction of Victoria, also known as Number 559, brought even more excitement to the story as the season reaches its peak. Both Rose and Victoria were given their abilities by the enigmatic Shadow, but Victoria despises Rose, viewing her as inferior. As the episode progresses, their relationship is explored and more details about their link to the shadow are revealed.
Rose's mother, the Queen, is facing trouble as Rose tries to protect her from Victoria and the cult while still dealing with the aftermath of having to mercy kill her father. The tension escalates as Rose's choice to reject Shadow Garden and return home with her mother has caused a ripple effect throughout the universe, especially now that the public knows she's the one who killed the King.
Meanwhile, Cid, seemingly unaware of the chaos in the world, makes a decision on his next move. As we follow Cid's story, we witness his return to his aspirations as a Mob member. When Marie is threatened by thugs, he tries to endear himself to her by attempting to save her, but ends up getting beaten up while concealing his true strength. However, it is evident that he will regain his strength later as the Shadow.

In the end, Shadow (Cid) brilliantly saves the members of Shadow Garden with the codenames 599, 664, and 665 when they are in danger. This leads to a bloody rescue and further comical misunderstandings, setting the stage for an exhilarating Episode 10.
