Article Overview
Green Bull is the latest addition to the roster of Marine Admirals in One Piece. However, his initial appearance lacked the imposing aura exhibited by his comrades, who hold the reputation of being some of the most formidable individuals globally.
The One Piece anime further explores Admiral Ryokugyu's confrontations with Wano's guardian, illuminating the formidable abilities of his Logia Devil Fruit.
Furthermore, Green Bull emerges as a genuinely savage individual, embodying the corrupt principles of the World Government.
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for One Piece Episode #1081. Admiral Green Bull, a formidable foe of the Straw Hat Pirates, made a rather underwhelming debut in the manga. Fortunately, the One Piece anime has rectified this by portraying Ryokugyu as the monstrous adversary he truly is. For more than two decades, the citizens of Wano suffered under the brutal rule of Kaido and Orochi, with their lands left ravaged. After a grueling battle that claimed the lives of numerous characters, the samurai have reclaimed their homeland. However, this victory has come at a price as Luffy's bounty has increased, and the World Government's newest Admiral is determined to capture him.
In an attempt to impress Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, Admiral Ryokugyu, also known as Green Bull, breached Wano's sealed borders, displaying a greater range of his abilities compared to what was shown in chapter #1053 of the One Piece manga. While Eiichiro Oda's original work portrayed the fearsome marine defeating Kaido's injured crew members, King and Queen, the anime expanded on this battle significantly, showcasing Green Bull's formidable Woods-Woods Logia Devil Fruit powers. And this was just the beginning.
Ryokugyu's battles in the One Piece manga were typically brief, but episode #1081 of the anime fully revealed the Admiral's formidable power with his Mori Mori no Mi (WoodsWoods Fruit) as he faced off against Wano's Red Scabbards. This portrayal heightened his menacing presence compared to the manga.
Green Bull Is A Scary Force Of Nature In One Piece
The Marine's most powerful Fruit users can easily be impressed by the newest Admiral's Devil Fruit powers. Green Bull can generate an endless amount of wood and tree limbs from his body, effortlessly regrowing any damaged limbs. Additionally, he possesses the ability to drain nutrients from his adversaries. King and Queen found themselves unfortunate enough to encounter this invader from Wano after his arrival. In One Piece episode #1080, the manga glossed over the intense battle between the injured villains and Ryokugyu, providing an entertaining spectacle. Ultimately, they were both defeated and left depleted of energy. This marked only the start of the anime's ruthless introduction to the Admiral, who had an insatiable thirst for Luffy's bounty. However, he would first need to defeat Wano's new protectors before he could lay a hand on the Straw Hat Captain.
Episode #1081 witnessed the Red Scabbard members sensing the imminent danger approaching the Flower Capital, prompting them to swiftly assemble and confront the formidable Admiral Ryokugyu. The epic battle featured Raizo, Denjiro, and even Yamato showcasing their exceptional combat skills against Green Bull and his awe-inspiring Woods-Woods powers. The animators of One Piece truly outdid themselves by magnificently capturing the terrifying ability of wood manipulation, allowing the Admiral to elongate, pierce enemies, and even transform into a colossal Kaiju tree man. As the episode drew to a close, Momonosuke, in his colossal pink dragon form, entered the fray to protect his homeland, albeit failing to intimidate the invader by the time the episode's outro reached its conclusion.
Admiral Ryokugyu Represents The Worst Of The World Government
What makes Green Bull's presentation in the anime truly terrifying is not only his monstrous physique or incredible abilities. The Admiral takes the opportunity to inform the guardians of Wano that, being a non-affiliated nation to the World Government, they essentially possess no rights and should all be sacrificed for the betterment of the "true" citizens. This depiction cruelly illustrates the ruthless ideology that upholds the world governed by the Celestial Dragons, and hearing it directly from Green Bull elevates him to an even more detestable and intimidating antagonist. The One Piece anime masterfully intensifies this crucial moment by showcasing Ryokugyu's powers as more treacherous and monstrous than the manga could convey.
