"The idea of an origin story made me a bit apprehensive, as they don't always feel necessary, especially for such a beloved property," the director explained to Mashable.
King expanded on the original book, finding numerous clues that Dahl had mentioned, such as Slugworth, Ficklegruber, and Prodnose. He described how Dahl wrote about spies and conspiracies against him. King read all of Dahl's work and attempted to channel his style, drawing inspiration from Dahl's adult-oriented story "The Landlady," which he found terrifying. The idea of incorporating this story, along with the small-print concept from the Willy Wonka movie, appealed to King, prompting him to delve into that world and piece it together.

As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled about the release of the new Willy Wonka film. I grew up watching the original movie and reading the book, and I have always been fascinated by the character of Willy Wonka. I am excited to see how the new film explores his backstory and how he became the eccentric chocolatier we all know and love.
The runtime of the film, one hour and 56 minutes, seems like a perfect length to tell Wonka's story. It is longer than the original film, which was 98 minutes, but it is still shorter than the 2005 remake, which was 115 minutes. I think this runtime will allow the filmmakers to delve into Wonka's character and his world without feeling rushed. I am also excited to see how the film incorporates elements from the original book, such as Slugworth, Ficklegruber, and Prodnose. I think these characters will add depth to the story and help to make it more faithful to the original source material. Overall, I am very excited about the new Willy Wonka film and I can't wait to see it in theaters!
