Although having quick reflexes and understanding enemy attacks are important, a successful loadout that combines the right weapons and Boons is what truly carries a player to the end. What sets Hades apart is its unique utilization of Greek gods and their abilities to personalize Zagreus' combat experience.
Hades features 10 different gods, each offering a variety of Boons. These Boons grant Zagreus combat advantages and enhance different stats. The player doesn't always have control over which gods and Boons they receive, adding an extra element of excitement as each journey through the Underworld feels distinct. While this may make Chaos seem overpowering to some, not all of the upgrades provided by Chaos may feel particularly beneficial. Especially when compared to the challenges Zagreus must face in order to fully unlock the power of the Boon. During difficult runs, players may choose to skip Chaos altogether to avoid the inconvenience, something that is not a concern with the other gods.
Artemis: As the goddess of the hunt, Artemis grants Boons that primarily focus on increasing Zagreus' critical hit rate. At higher rarities, these critical hits can occur often and bring great satisfaction. For builds that prioritize close-quarters, strength-based combat, Artemis will likely become a necessary addition for any run.
B Tier
Ares: The Doom status effect is highly regarded as one of the most powerful in the world of Hades. When combined with the formidable Blade Rift ability, it can create an irresistible allure for players to craft an entire build centered around Ares boons. While this may not be considered the most advisable strategy, Ares undeniably offers exciting opportunities to unleash devastating damage and transform Zagreus into an unstoppable vortex of death.
Demeter's Boons can be a game-changer in tough situations. When you're surrounded by enemies or in the middle of a chaotic brawl, the Chill status effect provided by Demeter's Boons can save your life. At first, players might underestimate the power of Demeter's abilities, but once Chill starts to stack and enemies slow down to a crawl, you'll realize just how useful they can be.
Zeus: Zeus, like Demeter, possesses Boons that become increasingly potent as they accumulate. The exhilaration is undeniable when the chain lightning surges and annihilates entire waves of enemies, reducing a room to ashes within moments. Although not all of these Boons are as effective in boss fights, players who plan on utilizing magic in Hades will likely find a Zeus Boon indispensable.
Dionysus: The Hangover status effect can wield considerable power, particularly at higher rarities and when combined with specific abilities found in Dionysus' Boons. However, there are instances when it may seem like a watered-down version of the Doom status effect granted by Ares' Boons.

Aphrodite's unique Boons primarily revolve around the influential Weak status effect. This makes her stand out as one of the few gods who offer defensive capabilities, akin to Athena. However, in comparison, Aphrodite's approach feels somewhat limited, as reducing damage is not as rewarding as reflecting it back onto enemies. Nevertheless, her Charm-inflicting Boons can prove to be quite useful in certain situations.
Despite being ranked lowest on the tier list, Poseidon is by no means useless, highlighting the exceptional balance in Hades and its adaptability to different play styles. While enemy knockback can be useful in crowded rooms, it falls short compared to the other Boons in terms of impact. Particularly in boss fights, many of Poseidon's Boons may feel underwhelming in comparison to those offered by other gods.
