There is a wide range of password managers available, but Dashlane is likely a familiar name, considering its frequent advertisements. In our review of Dashlane password manager, we gave it a high rating due to its user-friendly interface and autofill features. However, for free users, Dashlane has recently taken a negative turn.
While the free version of Dashlane was somewhat basic, it still provided all the necessary features for a password manager. You had the ability to store as many passwords as needed and utilize them as desired, with the only significant drawback being the restriction to use on a single device, which could be inconvenient for some users. Unfortunately, Dashlane's free version has now deteriorated further. The ability to add unlimited account passwords has been removed, and users are now limited to saving a maximum of 25 passwords.
Users who have saved more than 25 passwords to their account will not have their passwords deleted, but they will be unable to add new ones. However, what is even more concerning is that free users will no longer have access to chat and email support, severely limiting their ability to seek help in case of any issues. These changes seem peculiar for a password manager, rendering the free version almost unusable considering that most people have more than 25 passwords for their various online accounts and activities.
Users are expressing their dissatisfaction with these changes. If you are in search of an alternative, Proton (the company behind Proton VPN and Proton Mail) has launched a promotion that takes a dig at Dashlane. Their recently introduced password manager is offering a promotion where you can avail of 12 months of free Proton Pass Plus to evaluate the platform's paid tier, typically priced at just $3.99 per month. Even if you decide not to subscribe, the free version also provides unlimited logins, making it a viable replacement option.
