A new mob will be decided by Minecraft players through voting, giving options of a crab, armadillo, or penguin. The crabs are highly anticipated to win the vote as they possess the unique ability to expand the build distance limit.
For the next mob vote, adding Raccoons to Minecraft would be delightful. These adorable creatures would bring a touch of cuteness to the game. It would be interesting to incorporate their love for food into engaging gameplay mechanics, such as rewarding players with loot when they feed the Raccoons, resulting in a charmingly chubby raccoon.
Furthermore, Raccoons could serve as unique pets in the game. They may cause some annoyance to their owners by eagerly chasing after shiny items or dropped food. However, once tamed, they could prove beneficial by digging up valuable items. Owning a Raccoon would present challenges in terms of care, but it would also provide players with a distinctive gaming experience.
Minecraft features various iconic enemy types like Creepers and Endermen, as well as adorable animals inspired by real-life creatures. Among these creatures, foxes have the ability to pick up items, cats can scare off certain hostile mobs, and dogs serve as protectors. The world is also inhabited by polar bears in icy regions and bats that dwell in caves. While the lineup of potential mobs is about to expand through a mob vote, one cute creature is surprisingly missing.
The upcoming Minecraft mob vote will allow players to decide whether a crab, armadillo, or penguin should be added to the game. Crabs have a strong chance of winning due to their ability to increase the block placement limit, while armadillos offer the enticing prospect of a new armor set. Penguins, on the other hand, seem like the odd mob out as they simply enhance boat speeds and provide a cute appearance. However, if raccoons were ever considered as a potential addition, they would undoubtedly bring more mechanical interest compared to something like the penguin.
How Raccoons Could Work in Minecraft
The main attraction of raccoons is undoubtedly their cute appearance. Despite the blocky graphics in Minecraft, the game has successfully made certain creatures incredibly adorable. The pandas in Minecraft are a prime example of this, with their playful tumbling never losing its charm, while frogs are surprisingly endearing. It is crucial to capture the lovable aspect of raccoons, starting with a character model that exudes charm. However, it is equally important to depict their personality accurately. Luckily, this personality can be translated into enjoyable game mechanics.
One well-known trait of raccoons is their love for food. Memes and real-life encounters often depict raccoons rummaging through trash cans for scraps of food. Although Minecraft does not have trash cans due to the absence of furniture, Mojang could address this by allowing players to directly feed raccoons. It would be amusing to see the raccoon model gradually plump up as players provide it with food. However, the impact of feeding the animal could extend beyond a mere visual change and incorporate other comedic effects.
The more players feed the raccoon, the higher the likelihood it will lead them to a hidden stash of loot. Mojang has previously explored a similar concept with the Rascal - a mob that lost in the 2022 mob vote. In that scenario, players had to encounter the Rascal three times while mining to acquire valuable gear. If implemented, players would have to feed the raccoon three pieces of food for it to guide them to its secret stash of goodies. Depending on the type of food offered, such as cooked or rare, the raccoon could provide more valuable loot in return.
In addition to providing a unique gameplay experience, allowing players to treat raccoons as pets could fulfill the fantasy of owning one for animal enthusiasts. To distinguish them from other animals, raccoons could be depicted as slightly troublesome, immediately rushing towards shiny objects or dropped food to consume them. Since real-life raccoons can be challenging pets to care for, incorporating this aspect into Minecraft could add to their authenticity. Alternatively, a less bothersome feature could be having tamed raccoons dig up items while accompanying players, similar to the abilities of the Sniffer mob.
There is no definite answer as to whether or when a raccoon mob will be introduced in Minecraft. Nevertheless, it has the potential to be an enjoyable addition due to its adorable nature and the possibility of exciting gameplay features. Although it did not make it to the mob vote for 2023, it would still be a fantastic inclusion in a future Minecraft update.
